Post Rancho 9000's/rsx or Edel Brook

I have stock shocks at 12000 miles... after i sweitched the the bfg At's the ride quality went down. How much will getten new shocks affect my ride? And how much better are the edel brooks because at a local shop i can buy 3 9000's or rsx's and get another for free at $65 or $50 respectively. I was also told that the 9000's are adjustable without the computer and compressor....is it easy to do, and is it worth it to go with the 9000 if my truck is going to be primarily onroad? Also another local shop said bilsteins were the best...i havent heard much about these yet. Although to get those they were 75 each.

Ilmagill,

I have the RSX's, about a month now. The ride quality is great! First thing to remember is. Anything is better than stock!
Yes, Bilsteins are the best. But you will pay for them. The 9000's are adjustable without the computer and compresser. There is a adjuster **** on the top of each shock.
Since your Truck is primarily on road there may not be a need to have adjustable shocks.
If you want more info just do a search on this site for shocks. Almost all shocks are covered here. Good Luck!

Thumbs up

I just put new shocks on mine last week (see which shocks?). I decided on the Rancho 9000's and so far I love them. I bought the remote, but I haven't installed it yet. It is easy to change, though, without it. The *** is actually on the bottom of the shocks. The buy 3 get 1 free deal is a nationwide thing that Rancho is doing...I got the same deal. anyway, I chose the Rancho's because everyone that I talked to told me you do not want the RSX or Edlebrocks if you do any towing. The Rancho 9000's are really nice though because you can adjust them for the nice highway ride you want, or off road, or towing. I have only had mine a week, but I would not change my decision. Check out the thread I started earlier.

I just picked up 4 Rancho RSXs from 4 wheel parts today. I'm going to put them on tomorrow morning. The guy that helped me highly recommended them and said the ride is great. I'll give you my opinion next week.

It was the buy 3 get 1 free deal @ $50 each.

Cool

I went with Edelbrocks on mine. The ride is a hell of a lot better now. Those factory shocks really suck, if I must say. Yeah, those Edelbrocks are really good, can't go wrong. And at $75 each they better be, but they sure are.

Well, I only got the rear shocks on today and that was a @#%&! I knew that I had to buy an 18mm deep socket so I had that, but there is very little clearance between the bed and the top of the shock bolt!

I finally managed to get the socket in there but then it wasn't loosening when I turned it. I ended up cutting the plastic shield away from the shock and getting a pair of vice grips and duct tape to hold the shock shaft to get it to loosen the nut.

Eventually I got the air ratchet in there and that was it.

They gave me the wrong front shocks so I will get the correct ones on Tuesday and install them. I got the 4X4 fronts instead of the 2WD, no crosspins! I should really tell a difference after I get the front shocks in. I'll post again later.

PS. The edelbrocks are very good but they require deeper pockets!

Cool

ilmagill~

I went through the same decision and this is the conclusion i came to. I bought the RS9000's for the following reasons- 1)They are adjustable so I have alot better chance of getting the ride i wanted 2)rear can be stiffened up for towing 3)Its kinda like having 5 different shocks in one..ride/cornering/load carrying ability can be changed with your mood! 4)They are CHEAPER than the Edelbrocks!!..I paid 52 ea. for mine. That was my thought process anyway.

What system are you talking about? I was looking at four wheel parts...I assume you can mail order them or go to them locally. But tire shops do shocks as well, except they just order them from off road warehouse or 4 wheel parts.

Wink

I should have been more specific. Where is the best place to buy the RS9000 shocks and the autmatic pressure system for inside the cab control of the shocks?
