97(said,it is a 4x4 ORP) Yea,RIGHT!!!!
Here goes,Bought a 97 4x4 xlt about 2.5 years ago.while we were getting down to price they added on appx 994$ for ORP,at the time i was not sure what all the orp had on it, the only
thing i could remember i asked was where the 4x4 OFF Road decals were,do you belive he told me that i had to order them from the factory,BUl%&#@!IT... Thing was that it came w/ the 265 70 17 wheels& tires (WHEEL SWAP ONLY) , INSERTS in the bumber where the FOG LIGHTS go (get to that in a min) no front skid plate,no transfer skid plate.only gas tank, no heavy duty shocks,i know because i checked on the part # (crawled) under alot of trucks since then.To make this even funnier,i went back to JACKY JONES FORD, CLEVELAND,Ga to buy the FOG LIGHT kit for appx. 200$ and installed it myself!!!!!!! (friends am i stupid),yes is the only option.. now over the months i contacted JACKYJONESFORD,AND after a lot OF B-S I GOT 200$ back, 2 skid plates & no real 4x4 ORP, ALSO BOUGHT THE DECALS at another dealership!! All i want to know is how to raise my 97 f150 1.5 to 2in in the back.are the spring codes different? mine is 2P. THANK YALL ,BEEN CARRYING this around for a while,i am also an -A- PLAN BUYER,HAAHHHH.

The 1997 ORP only had skid plates (3), HD shocks, 17 inch wheels and the ORP 4X4 stickers. That was the whole ORP option package, I think Fog lights were standard on all 4X4 Lariats and optional on 4X4 XLT's. Not sure about the fog lights but they were not part of the ORP back then and I am sure that the ORP rear springs were the same (in 97 anyway). BTW - back then you did not get the ORP sticker on an "ORP Lariat", only on the other trim levels. The ORP was never as high as $994. Yes he is BS no doubt. Sounds like someone swapped out parts (wheels)on this one or is lying!

true "LARIAT" HAS never to this date had the 4x4off road decals, unless someone purchased them separately and had them put on.

Bobbyboy the easiest way to raise the back of your truck is with add a leaves I got mine for about $100.00 with u-bolts centering pins shipped to my door from a nearby spring shop it raised my truck two inches exactly and didnt settle. It rides just slightly stiffer.
steve miley, you DA man, please tell me more.about a year or so back,i went to a place called lamdrum spring, inquired about something of this nature, said he would change out the whole set???? could you tell me a little more, what type of leaves, any part#,maybe a phone# of where you purchased them
thanks

McVeigh's truck springs mio michigan (517)826-3682.I couldnt find the invoice for part numbers but you really dont need it all I did was tell them the year and model of my truck and they knew what springs I needed and the size of the u-bolts and centering pins just tell them how much you want to lift it.Ive ordered from them several times in the past and everything fits as it should. No problems.
steve, thanks,i will give them a call today.how difficult was the install? do you need a lift? is it better for a mechanic to do it? once again thanks.

Add a leaves are pretty simple to install. All you need is a floor jack and acouple of jack stands.Raise truck up on rear axle then support frame up with stands take tires off remove u-bolts .lower axle down (shouldnt need to remove drive shaft or shocks they have quite a bit of travel)put c-clamp on spring pack to keep it from comming apart when you take out centering bolt for spings .The new leaves go underneath the main (top) leave. The new centering bolts are extra long so you can draw the springs together (new leaves will have quite a bit more arc than the factory springs)youll need to cut off the bolts after you draw springs together then just jack the rearend back in place and install u-bolts.Dont forget to re-tourque u-bolts after couple hundred miles. Takes about an hour.
i have a 1997 4.6L lariat.it has the 4x4 decals on both sides of the bed.they don't say off road.i have skid plates on the front, gas tank,a i think their is one on the tran.case.that is the way it came from the lot.
Kevin,
The Dealer put the Decals on. Was done a lot back then but did not come from factory that way. Skid plates were an option ($180) that you could get alone or they came as part of the with the ORP.

Yes, it was an appearance thing. Since the Lariat got the stripe and "Lariat" on it they thought no one would want the 4X4 decal or the "4X4 Off Road" one on it too. They turned out to be wrong and had to order a lot of decals for later. It was my understanding they did start putiing them on later in 99 or maybe late 98. I don't know but there are a lot more of the decals on later Lariats but can't say for sure if dealer did it or not. Here is my old 97 with one on it. But I put it on.
cphilip nice ex truck, noticed you went to a superduty, another good choice, would like to about 97 w/ 4x4 ORP,WHY DOES IT SEEM TO SIT HIGHER IN the back than a standerd 4x4 w/o the ORP,is it because of the leaf springs?any information would be helpful. thankyou

Sorry not sure which one you are talking about. AS for the F150: May look a little more unlevel because it was sitting on a down hill slope in the picture. Actually it is about level when seen on level ground. I never messed with the torsion bars so it might be a little low in the front like most of the 4x4's seemed to come. Mine did not come with the ORP. I upgraded it myself. It came with the optional skid plates and was a 4X4 so I just went and put on Trailmaster Invader N7 shocks with boots and upsized the Tires to 265/75 R16's to get the same tire hight of the ORP. I couldn't see replaceing the wheels cause I liked em so much and the 17 inch tire selection stunk so I accomplished the 31.6 inch tire (same as ORP) diamaeter with the tires instead. Then had Paw inLaw (Body shop owner) get me the decals @ 36 bucks total for them!
As fro the SD. The need for towing was why I parted with this beauty. It had the 4.6L and did not come with Tow poackage. Even though I put a tranny cooler on when it came down to it I was maxed out on my GVW and GCVWR (6100 & 11000). The truck weighed 5290 with out any one in it! I couldn't put the 4 wheeler, four passengers in it and tow the Travel Trailer at the same time. So there you go. Hated to do it and wished I was rich enough to keep them both but....not me. I loved this truck too much to see it burned up. I would have gone to the new F150 7700 but couldn't get the big tranny in that one so I went on up to the SD. Now I am at 8800 GVW and 20,000 GCVWR and this truck weighs 5450. Lots of room left.
