Turns out the dealer had filled my tires about 10 psi over what they should've been. I let it out and the ride is a bit better now.

Cool

WOW!!! its a truck! Empty bed and all, I do believe there will always be some form of bounce, because of the fact it is a truck.
has anyone suggested the Rancho 9000 adjustable shocks.
54reg has his lowered, I too have the shackles and hangers swapped out with a 4" lower and it doesnt bounce as much as when it was new.
Good Luck

Hey , I'm headed out to my tires with a gauge! Noticed same problemo , but figured it PARTIALLY for being a truck. However , they keep making these things so good , appealing to more people which means better ride vs. the ol' truck bouncy-bouncy. Maybe Ford created part of their own monster!!

Hey guys:

I got a 98 supercab 4X4, ORP. Can anyone with a similar truck tell me what the recommended tire pressures are. My door sticker is a little rubbed right where the tire pressures are listed. I think it may say 29 front and 31 back? Is this right? Different front and back?

When I got my truck, it had about 37 psi front and rear. Talk about a harsh ride!

If you're not carrying a load, you don't really need 31/32 psi rear. This can actually cause premature tire wear in the center of the tire (I know from experience). Try 29-30 psi in the back to soften the ride. Just remember to put some more air in the back tires when your bed is full of stuff.

Question

Hey...got to thinkin (which can be dangerous hehe)...is anyone's ride actually bouncy,or could it be attributed to a sensitive road contact?? Seems my y2k follows almost every road contour & picks up on it.Strange , the manholes, steel plates over construction... just blasts right over them ok. Hey...even new pavement has 'ripples' I can usually see them in the shadows from oncoming headlights. Anyone else noticed this ? Like it COULD be called a bouncy-ride attributed to shocks/similar?? Hope I described it accurately enuff! Any other threads please let me know as I'm always looking for a smoother ride THANKS!

The Ford part number for the "Dampening Bar" is: F85Z 17E834 AA
If your truck is under warranty and you can prove to the service manager (after he drives it) that it is "too" bouncy he'll install it for free, otherwise you'll haVe to pay for it. I've tried 2 different dealers, no luck.

2000XLTFan - sounds like you might have an alignment problem.

did someone say bouncy? well to me its a truck and I dunno how bouncy is bouncy, but of course my truck is not bouncy, its more just a stiff ride. maybe check your balance on your rims and tires, see if you tire might be warped or rims can be bent and this can happen from the factory. good luck!!!

Bouncy ride... too much body roll in turns...strange vibrations on different road surfaces..boat moving or shaking when pulling...nose diving during braking...Oil level mark on dipstick not up to max after 6 qt. change...seat position seems to be leaning forward... All of the above were drastically improved after install of rear sway bar and 2" leveling shackles. Will never go back to stock. This set up is much better. Even my passangers comment on the ride improvement.Capt.
