Thumbs down 2WD 2" Front Leveling Springs

Just wanted to drop everyone a line to let them know of my recent experiences.

First off in my opinion; DON'T PURCHASE AND INSTALL ANY BRAND OF 2" LEVELING SPRINGS to level the front of your 99 F-150 2WD.

I had to purchase adjustable cam bolts; which by the way still did'nt bring my truck back into alignment.

The ride of your truck is shot, it's like riding on nothing but steel ibeams, it sucks, pardon my french.

I tore the pistons out of both of my front shocks while pulling into the parking lot at work after lunch today.

I started hearing all sorts of weird pops/cracks/bangs from the underneath of the truck.

I could'nt find anyone with a reasonably priced shock. I had to goto a 4x4 shop and special order shocks; if I wanted them, because the standard extended length was not long enough, because I added two extra inches with the springs.

If your going to do a lift, use spindles.

I've returned my truck, to the way the factory designed it and put my factory springs back on.

Sorry this is so long, but I just don't want anybody else to blow all the money that I just did.

Nitrox, do you think that this has anything to do with your truck being a standard cab? I know that Fabtech says to not put their leveling kit on a standard cab... just curious if Rough Country said anything similar...

Sorry to hear about your bad experience. Thank You for posting it though. I WAS thinking of getting them if you didn't have any problems. I guess I'll have to wait for Patrico to sell his Fabtech A-Arms and Coils.

Vocaire:

They were 'Rough Country' springs; and when I called and spoke with a sales person, he assured me that the springs would work on a 99 F-150 2WD standard cab.

Well, the truck was absolutely level, I measured at all four wheels, and the measurement was the same, something like 7".

It would have been nice if 'Rough Country' told me that I would have to purchase the adjustable cam bolts and longer shocks.

When I called them back to tell them about the front end not being able to be aligned, they seemed to offer very little help.

As a matter of fact 'Rough Country' told me that their springs were made by 'FabTech'.

I called 'FabTech' but they would'nt admit to it.

Anyways, my truck is back to the stock suspension, and it rides great.

Hope this helps ...

CCLA:

Your truck is beautiful, I love the stance, the tires are perfect for the lift. wana sell it.

Man, please don't put those darn coil springs under your front end, the ride will be totally shot. I imagine with the spacers you've got installed, it rides just a little bit stiffer.

But anyways, your truck looks
GREAT

Take it easy ...
