Post Going up how much will I loose

Hey all...final judgement is almost at hand and I have a question for those who have a f150 4x2 4.6l motor. I'm pretty sure unless someone can sway me that I will but bullseye spindles on my truck with a block to achieve a 3.5 in lift. I am also gonna put American Racing Baja rims and 305/70 r16's on her. Since I am so poor at visaulization except in some cases oops sorry...how will she look? I hope she looks good....with 33 inch tires basically how much hp will I loose? The only other mod to her at this point is a 3" pipe from the "Y" on the exhaust back to a flowmaster 50 series and out....what should I expect?

Well first of all I am pretty sure that the bullseye spindles are only a 3" lift. Secondly, your truck after lift and tires will only be slightly higher than stock 4x with 265/75/17's. I just ordered mine and can't wait to put them on with my atlas rims and 285's BFG's. But make sure that you get the new retooled spindles that use the factory ball joints.

Well the lift is done and 33's are on her....I can't see any noticeable loss in HP's....The lift/rims/tires were worth it.

Question

silverback,
I have a couple of questions I hope you can answer. Do the spindles move the wheels out?
I'm asking because I've only seen a picture of the spindles & it looks like they would have to move the wheels out to clear the lower ball joint.
Will wheels with 5.5" of back spacing work with the spindles?

Since the wheel is dropped 3" relative to the
upper A arm, how close do your tires come to the arm?

Any info is greatly appreciated!!!

In all honesty I'm not sure... I think you may want to verify the correct back spacing... A place I looked at mentioned I may need spacers in the front if I go with spindles but I opted the for the other....I had a suspension lift installed. I am happy with it besides the fact my truck got broken into today at work...fricken a holes .... The ride is a little stiffer but that's ok ...she looks and feels like a truck!

Sorry I couldnt be much help....

d reyes,
Be sure to buy the alignment cam bolts when you buy your spindles. I had to set the toe in and eyeball the camber before I drove it to the alignment shop.

as far as losing HP goes...by adding larger tires you should lower the differential gear ratio (numerically higher) in order to compensate for the slower turning larger diameter tires...you won't lose horsepower but you may feel like you lost some off the "oomph" in the bottom end like when starting from a dead stop...but you'll spin lower RPM on the highways at the same speed with larger tires...I'd also install a chip and free flowing air filter to really get the most out of that exhaust upgrade!!...you'll really feel the difference then...

I have a '97 XLT 5.4L XC with the 3.5" Fabtech lift, stock wheels and 285/75/R16 BFG All Terrains.(32.8" true height) I also have a 3" after Y-pipe running into 2-chamber Flowmaster-dual 2 1/4" pipes exiting in stock location in front of rear wheel. After adding the 33's, I lost a little grunt off the line. You will probably notice that all the gears seem taller and your acceleration is a little slower, but if you do a lot of highway driving, the rpm's are much more relaxed at 55. Keep in mind that your speedo will be a little off- I ran 255/70/R16's stock and my speedo is slow 10%. (indicated 60, true speed 66, etc.) The Flowmaster sounds great, but I believe I lost a little torque(increased horsepower, lost torque?)on the bottom end. One tip: don't run a 2-chamber Flowmaster exiting in ('97) stock location in front of rear tire unless you want that deep rumble to be felt and heard all the time. I have to turn the radio up a bit on the freeway. Run them out the back and it should be more civilized in the cab.

SilverBack,

Let's see the new wheels on the truck! I haven't checked around to see if you have posted some already, but I would definitely like to see your truck!
