Rear Leaf Springs
I have a 97 F150 SC 4X4. The rear leaf springs are 3 leaf. One of them is bent due to a wreck. I am replacing the pair but I also want to increase the payload capacity. I have talked to 2 different dealers and there are 13 different spring. I have contacted Ford's Customer Assistance and they were worthless. Does anyone know if I can use the 4 leaf springs off a 97 F250LD regular cab? I want the truck to remain approx. the same height (no lower, but could be a little higher). The GVW for the F250 is 6900. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
I have a 97 F-150 SC Lariat 4X4. I have 4 leafs and the towing Pkg. The only reason I noticed this is: My pal with a 97 F-150 SC 4X4 XL had only 3 leafs. His truck has smaller tires (16"?) so mine sits considerably higher. I have a fantastic ride and great capacity (have had 3/4ton in a 1/2 ton without any change afterward)
Perhaps ordering the Lariat springs with the towing Pkg will get it done?
Bets of luck,
Bruce

I had the same problem with my truck too. So I took the springs off the back, had a St. Louis Spring Company add a leaf, put proper insulators in, and band them together. I put it all back together and then cranked the torsion bars two turns on the adjustment bolts to level it back out. It now sits about 2" higher in the rear and 1 1/2" higher in the front. I am able to haul a Honda 300 4 wheeler and all our gear (gas,water,food,guns,coolers,tents,bedding,...)for a long weekend in the truck with the 4 of us and it doesn't sag one bit. It also rides smooth for a 4x4 too, but see that I do have a longbed. Added about 1500lbs of loading capacity to the truck. I did carry 23 sheets of 4'x12'x1/2" drywall and 30 2"x4"x8's once. It would have taken at least 2 trips before the spring pack addition.
Your decision but it worked for me.

Thanks all of you for your suggestion. I now have some options to pursue. Last weekend I hauled 5 4-wheelers on a trailer with the bed of the truck full of gear to OK. The rear of the truck sat down about 6 - 8 inches and my headlights shined up in the air which made a lot of the truckers mad. I need to get this fixed. Thanks again.
