Offroad Package
I have a XL. What exactly is included in the offroad package besides the obvious, Wheels and tires? They seem to sit up a little higher than mine even with my 265's. What improvements could be made to my XL.

I just read that one after I posted this. It sounds like the package wasn't anything special. It probably wasn't worth the money to get it. The sticker I can live without. I plan on new shocks soon. I don't see 17" wheels as being that great considering everybody is trading them in because of tire availability. I bought the XL to keep the price at the $20,000 mark and planned on doing aftermarket as I can afford it.

I agree, thats why I went Lariat and just added the skid plates, elect 4X4 and did the shocks aftermarket. All the rest came with the Lariat package and various conveinience groups & security packages and way more than the Off-Road Pkg. alone would have given me. There was not really a "Lariat Off Road" in 97 although some dealers upgraded my type Lariat with HD shocks, wheels and decals and made a few of em. I think in 98 they did an 50th anniversary one with some extra touches. I will get a nice custom sticker on my own and keep my 16"ers

Take off your cap when you measure it against an other ORP. For my 00 I just ordered the skid plates I already had Rancho shocks and I didn't want the 17" rubber problems. Mine sits about 1 ½ inches lowerthan an ORP. When I eventually put on 285's it will be higher by as much. My 97 ORP had a Cap and was about 1 ½ inch lower with it on. So for the extra $$$ you get Skid Plates, HD Shocks, Off Road sticker, and 17" wheels w 265/70 R 17 Good Years. BTW my 97 HD shocks didn't last long off road.

Yeah, those 17" meats are a problem. Today (monday) tried to get some for a customer. Told well have them Thursday!!! Bought mine used with the ORP, so I wasn't worried about it.

ORP has optional sticker, heavy duty shocks, 3.55 limited slip, skid plates, and 17'' wheels. The tires arent that much of a problem to find now. They have many different kinds of tires now. I am getting some Bridgestone Dueler AT's. They are a 50K mile tire and pretty good off road. You can buy mud tires, and all terrains at about any tire shop. They are expensive though, but they are bigger tires so there for they will be expensive. A 265/70/17 is equal to around a 32 or 33'' tire.
Everyone is forgetting about the built in fog lights. If I remember correctly, the ORP was the only way to get them in the 98. Otherwise you got silly looking plastic caps to fill the holes in the bumper where the lights go.

No btr, the bumper complete with built in fog lights were standard equipment on the 97, 98 and 99 (4X4's for sure, maybe also 4X2?) in the Lariat trim model and I belive they were optional on the XLT trim.
I have a 97 with the ORP. I noticed RustyS indicated it has the limited slip rear end. My door sticker says I have the 3.55 gears but not the limited slip.

Red Rider,
Unfortunitely I am far from you. I am in Minnesota.
cphilip & btr,
I have those silly plastic caps on my 4x4 XL. I would like to put fog lights in there. Is that possible?
