Got the same problem as SPYDOG. Going up in a parking garage, normally turning right, it makes a loud squeek. The brake is not applie, not going fast. Took it to the dealership, as it is under warranty, left it for a week, yet it still is not fixed (Leif Johnson Ford in Austin). Guess I will try again.

To all you squeekers, when my truck was two weeks old, I had the same squeeks coming from the rear of the truck. Took it to the dealer, they installed a "new" set of leaf springs with "made in Mexico" stamped on them, haven't heard any noises since.

All,
Had a 97 and now a 98 and both rear leaf springs were changed on both vehicles because the front bushing was pressed in off-center, causing contact with the frame and squeaks, esp. after washing or driving in rain. My dealer tried lubing and it will work until the lube washes out; only solution is repositioning the bushing or replacing the spring (my choice under warranty). If the bushings are off-center and there is frame contact, you will have noise. Just my .02.

Thumbs up

Hey all,
Just dropping some feedback regardig my dreaded "suspension squeaks". Got my truck back on Wed., drove it all week & all weekend so far no squeaking/knocking sounds. According to the dealer they did the following on this (the 4th time) visit, after escalating the issue to Ford's Customer Assistance Center:
Tightened, padded, & caulked the body mounts.
I also had some issue w/my clutch constanly squeaking, this was resolved by replacing the master cylinder.
Hope this helps anyone who is/was suffering any or both of these issues.
Peace

Finally brought my truck to the dealer. the squeak I experienced every time I stopped was the ball joints. they replaced the uppers and lowers. said they were dry from the factory.

Of course the other problems they couldn't find like the cluking when I shift or the whine in the rear end. I intend to change all the fluids in the drivetrain, one at a time, and see exactly what the the problem is.

Henry.

I have a 99 Supercab Flareside, 4x4, ORP, 5.4 auto and I had a knocking in the suspension and the dealer tightened up the shocks and it quit and now I have a squeak in the front suspension and it is supposed to get fixed today if they know what it is, you know how dealerships are in fixing things right the first time!

I had more of a creaking sound a few months ago coming from right under the cab. I took it in and they found both the torsion bars somewhat loose, which explains the reason why it would creak everytime the trucks weight transfers, just before a stop or right off the line. It must of loosened off eventually from all the offroading and 45 degree approaches to climb a steep hill.

After I installed my lift I had very bad creaking everytime I accelerated and stopped no matter how slowwly I did it. Drove me nuts. I finally located the problem was coming from the torsion bars. I removed them and greased both end with bearing grease and also greased the cam at the crossmember. Completely sovled the problem.

Exclamation

Hey all, I just came back from vacation. I drove down to SC and back for the week with my girlfriend (1134 miles round trip). Im getting a bit of a popping noise in the rear and sometimes in the front. Im chalking it up to the shock's bolt.

My question is where did you tighten it? I dont get under there often so did you tighten it at the top of the shock near the truck or the bottom of the shock near the ground...or both?

I had the same squeak coming from the rear of my '97 F150 4x4. I noticed a lot of sand on and inbetween the rear leafs so I jacked up the back end to get some space (atleast less pressure)between the leafs and sprayed water thru them. This got a lot of sand and particles out of the leafs that I couldn't see before. The squeaking was reduced to almost nothing from very noticeable. I now have a '98 F150 4x4 and noticed that there are small little pads or spacers of some sort between the individual leafs that the other truck didn't have. This truck hardly ever squeaks, but on occasion after 4wheeling or muddy roads it will. Just a quick spray with the hose and the problem is solved. Hope this helps.

I haven't really noticed it much anymore. It's weird, sometimes you here it, sometimes you don't. Went off-road a couple days ago, and it didn't sound as bad as it use too. Maybe when I washed it off real good, I got some of the crud off the under body, or the springs, who knows. Just glad the squeaks are not as noticeable.

That sqeak is driving me nuts.

I have a 2000 super cap 4wd. Mine has 200k on it. Never had any problems before. I got in to it one day and when I turned it to right of center it made a squeaking sound. It will make the sound while standing still on the driveway or turning in parking lots. I don't notice it when going very fast but then you don't turn the wheel that much at speed. Also starting doing it when I hit a bump on that side.

I talked to the dealer and they said that it was most likely a loose shock. So I decide to install new ones as the the old ones had a lot of miles on them.

I installed new gas shocks and used a air gun to tighten them down but I still have some noise.

I did lift up the torsion bars about a 1 1/2" around three months ago to install 33 x 12.50 tires. I had it aligned and they said that the upper ball joints should be replaced soon. But again no noise at the time.

I have tried putting lube on everything but it does not seem to help.

Anyone have any other ideas?

i have a 1999 f150 super cab 4x4 and just replaced upper control arms, lowerball joints (with grease inserts)and sway bar end links and did the same thing on my dads 03' f150 supercrew fx4 and both of the trucks still squeak. my dads is way worse than mine but i cant figure out where it is coming from. his squeaks even when you turn the wheel. the only thing i can think of is the sway bar end links are either too tight or loose. I have greased everything and checked the shocks. all checked out well. anybody have any ideas? I would greatly appreciate the help.

i was having the same problem, but my truck is lifted. is yours lifted? the bolts in my front crossmember were loose on the passenger side, so when i hit the brakes the front end of my truck would creak. i just got under there with a torque and torqued them to spec. all fixed
