Shock shopping: 2X price = Twice as good?

I've been researching shocks here on this great forum. My 97' supercab 4x4 now has 128K miles and is in need of new shocks. I was hoping to get away with using some $25 or less shocks such as the Monroe-matics, but now after reading the great reviews of better shocks, I'm torn. I'm hoping to keep the truck at least another year if not more. (Maybe go for 200K?) Would you spend twice as much for the Monroe Reflex in the name of comfort and safety ? Any other justifications for spending twice as much ?

I spent the money on Rancho RS9000's for the adjustability. I stiffen them up for towing my trailer and soften them for around town. I really like them and think the price was worth it. Just my opinion though.

A more expensive shock will last longer and provide better control. Only you can decide if twice the price is worth it. $100 or $200?

I would look into the Rancho promotion. Buy 3 get 1 free of the RS900x or RSX. Summit Racing sells them, as well as many other places. I haven't seen many e-tailers advertise buy 3 get 1 free so you. I would find the best price, then call to find out if they honor the promotion. Figure about $225-250 for the RS900x shipped or $150 for the RSX shipped.

I really like the RS9000 I bought last year about this time owith buy 3 get 1 free. The adjustability is great for towing or heavy bed loads.

Follow up: I decided to part with the money and went with the Monroe Reflex since many people on the board gave them praise.
I popped them in on Saturday and must says that it is like driving a different truck! Its not a harsh ride at all......in fact quite the opposite. Very happy with them so far. I should have a chance to test them under full load soon too.

thanks again to all the great members of this board for the helpful advice.
