4 X 4 Lowering?
4 X 4 Lowering?
I just bought a '98 4x4 5.4 ext cab flairside which I love but it is a tad tall. It has stock suspension and 285/75/16 tires.
Can the truck be lowered 3" or so easily? the rear looks like removing the blocks would work but will that mess up the pinion angle and do you just adjust the torsion bars or does someone make a lowering piece for the torsion bars? I am also thinking on 20" Harley wheels but don't want the big fender well gap. Any ideas or advice? Thanks.

Sorry no offense hear but now i have heard everything. Just curious why did you buy a 4x4 if you didn't like the ride height and if you wanted the sport truck look with 20" wheels and a lowered truck why not just buy 2wd and save yourself the dilema that you are in? Just curious. Never heard of anyone wanting to lower a 4x4. Just another thing you could alway go to smaller tires also this will make the truck a bit lower depending on how small you go. The 285/75/16 tire is a pretty tall tire compared to like a stock tire which is I think a p235/55/16 not exactly sure about those numbers . the differance is about 3-4 inches maybe even a bit more.

For the umpteenth time, some people don't need the offroad capabilities, but they desire the added traction and stability of a 4x4 for instances such as ice, snow, rain, and boat ramps. This gives them all of those benefits plus the looks that they can achieve by stuffing the wheel wells with bigger meats to give the a lowered look.
Yes that is true in fact I do not go hardcore 4 wheeling in my truck but do need it when in mud like when going to the duck club. Most trucks do NOT need 4 wheel drive to use on a boat ramp as long as you have a really good tire and LS and know how to drive fairly well(In saying that there are boat ramps that are very slippery and sometimes 4wheel drive is needed but that is usually with very large boats that over load the truck already I have seen it to many times ).The key in boat ramps is to apply very little gas not puch it like so many people do. With him having 285/75/167 tires if he lowers his truck those tires will no longer fit. So he will need to get all new tires that are small enough to fit once the truck has been lowered. Even a truck with 4 wheel drive and bad tires that are not designed to work in the snow will not work.Case in point if you look at the stock tires that Ford puts on the trucks Her in California even if your truck has 4 wheel drive they will make you put on chains because the tires are not designed to handle driving in the snow. I pesonally do not care if he lowers his truck if that is what he likes then more power to him I was curious to know why he wanted to do that and if he wated the 4x2 look why not just buy the 4x2 the truck was the same hieght now as when he bought it so it must have been to high then. Again everyone has there own taste and I am not and was not meaning to slam that just simply asking a question as to why.

No problem or animosity was meant. I now see how it came across. The point I was trying to make is that every time somebody mentions dropping a 4x4 someone inevitabley asks the question, "Why would you want to drop a 4x4?". I apologize for making it sound like you were slamming him.
