Lifted my Screw and Now I have tranny a problem

I just had a 6" Fabtech lift installed on my 2001 SuperCrew and now my tranny is leak pretty bad. It appears to be right around the tailstock area. Now I am quaking in my boots thinking Ford won't even touch it. I wonder if the new steeper angle of the driveshaft has caused this in some way.

Has anyone dealt with a dealer after a lift was installed?
What was there reaction?

I noticed the leak as soon as got home from the lift shop.

Any advice.

My guess is something along the lines of a driveshaft problem. It may not have been the right length and caused the seal to fail. Ford should warranty it, they have to be able to prove that the damage was a direct effect of the lift. Otherwise go back to the lift shop and tell them whats going on, if they're a good shop they should own up to it (if there truly was no problem before they worked on it) and fix it.

I had a similar problem, but not right after the lift. Because of the lift, my driveshaft was pulled out so far that the yoke would wobble in the tailshaft housing, causing the seal to fail. The seal actually "walk" right off the housing. I had my driveshaft lengthened 1.5 inches and replaced the seal. If your problem is the same or similar, the dealer may give you a hard time, as it wouldn't be hard to prove your lift caused it.

G Patricio - Thanks for the reply. You stated exactly another fear I had because the yoke appears to stick out pretty far.

However, the leak is coming from where the tailshaft housing bolts on to the main tranny housing. It appears the leak is coming from the gasket. I can see where a lift would cause the problem with what you are describing, but the area of my leak seems like it could not be lift related. I'm sure Ford will still say the lft caused it.

I have an appointment on Thursday. I'm anxious to see if the cost of lift just went up!!!

Hey socalcrew;
I just had my truck lifted with a fabtech 6"lift-kit about three weeks ago. So far i have to problems other than the ride is very rough. I suspect your problem is not related to the lift-kit. If you want you should call fabtech, they are located in Chino and ask for Armen. I called them when I had issues with my kit, I don't have the number just call information. Let us know what the dealer says. Good Luck

lopez,

You are right, the problems I was having was not related to the lift and the dealer fixed under them warranty. I had the rear extension seal (transmission) replaced and the rear diff resealed. The dealer didn't even mention anything about the lift.

As far as my ride, my screw actually rides better than it did before. I have a slight pull to the left, but I am going to get it realigned next week. So far I am VERY happy with my lift. I am sorry that you are having so many problems with yours.

As far as you ride quality goes, check your shock settings they maybe set to firm. To adjust, remove the shock and then twist them. There are 3 settings. Mine is set at 2.

Socalcrew;

My shocks are not adjustable, how can I tell if they are. The shocks I have look normal. Did you upgrade your shocks with your kit. How did you adjust your shocks.

Fabtech

I don't want to rain on anyones parade but I have not really heard good things about Fabtech shocks. In fact I have been told to avoid them at all costs. Go get a nice set of bilstein 5100 series shocks. On the off road site that I frequent they guys say stay away from Fabtech!
