Goodyear AT/S Tire Pressure
Goodyear AT/S Tire Pressure
I know that Ford states 30 front/35 rear psi, but that is way to low for this tire/truck. 50 psi max is on the tire and I was wondering if 35front/40rear psi would be better. I traded an Excursion on this Super Crew and I used to run the Excursion's tires at 50/50 when Ford recommended 38/45 which was way to low. What do you think???
You'll find a lot of opinions on tire pressure, here's mine: I've always run my A/T's and M/T's at max pressure because I prefer firm responsive handling. I also tow and haul occasionally and don't want my tires squatting when I do. I get good wear out of the tires at that pressure and I rotate them frequently. (about every 5000 miles)
I would suggest based upon my experiance with those tires to set the pressure to 40PSI in the front and 45PSI in the back. This will make them a bit stiffer but you won't get as rough as a ride. The 30/35 that Ford recomends is as low as you should go without under inflating.
The reason for the higher pressure in the back is because the back will have more strain on the sidewalls in a turn than the fronts. This adds more stability to the tires in the back when making a sharp turn. By having the presure lower in the front it will make the ride a little bit softer and there will be a bit more traction to pull you in or out of a turn.
Just remember NEVER go below the recomended pressure unless your offroading and just need more traction on a temporary basis. You will see more wear in the middle of the tread if your over inflating and more wear on the edge if your under inflating.
Hopefully this helps, the pressures I have recomended are just that, there recomended, you can do whatever you want as long as they don't go below the factory recomendation.
