Question Remote start

Has anyone ever installed a remote start/entry/alarm?? And if so how difficult was it, did it work out and what brand might be good? Thanks, Doug

I had a Viper alarm system installed with remote start and it works great. The truck still has the chip protection in the key and after 2 and 1/2 years, I have had no problems.

i did not install it myself. I had an Automate brand remote start/entry/alarm installed on my '99 and have it in a box out in my shop waiting to be installed in my '01 I just bought.

Worked perfectly the entire 2.5 yrs I had it. Can't wait to get it in my newer truck. The range is incredible. From inside the plant I work, I could start my truck. 200 or so yards and through 4 concrete block walls. In the open it would work from 400 yards away. I never tried it any further, who know how far it will actually work from.

You have to place a key in a transponder to fake out the PATS system, though. I didn't want to use my only spare key, so I had to get another made. ($60!!)
