'01 Screw vs. 02 Screw

I have had a chance to extensively compare the model years. I drove and rode in both model Screws from CA. to MO. and back. Both were XLTs , mine, the 01 gen. II had captain chairs and my brothers 02 had the 60/40 bench seats. I will try to be unbiased.

The 02 front seat is absolutely uncomfortable as driver or passenger. I got TB (tired butt) real bad. Never had that problem in the 01 model.

The 02 rear seats were about the same . I didn't like the headrests in the 02. The 02 did't have the fold down armrest/cupholder. The 02 headliner in the rear has been thickened around the corners ending in loss of headroom.

The 02 had the 4.6 and the 01 a 5.4 motor. I will just say that I prefer the 5.4 but the 4.6 performed quite well. the 5.4 got 15.4 MPG and 4.6 got 17.5 MPG.

The 02 is a 4x2 and the 01 is a 4x4. The 02 rode smoother , cornered tighter with less body roll. Although we sure could of have used the 4x4 in the back roads.

The CDs in the player were quite a bit cooler in the 02.

Overall I like my 01 better . Not because it's mine (yeah right!) because it is more comfortable , has more power and offroad capabilities.

So, are you saying that if you compared my '02 FX4 to a 2WD '01 that you would probably like the '02 better in that scenario. I guess it's always hard to compare apples and oranges.

The 02 had the 4.6 and the 01 a 5.4 motor.

I didn't think the 4.6L was avail in S'Crews... I thought all were 5.4L standard.

Hey Irhogfan,
What I am trying to say is the 02 seats are uncomfortable . I don't think they use different seats from 4x2 to Fx4. I don't like the rear headrest either. So I would probably prefer the 01 but I would not have gotten a 4x2 with a 4.6 either. Don't get me wrong they are both excellent trucks . It's all about what you like and the way it feels from a personal point of view. I would probably prefer the 02 Fx4 because of the options but I would definately get the captain chairs.

Hey Canyon slicker,

Just giving you a hard time buddy. I've ridden in my friends '01 and his front seats seem to be the same as mine. I have the captain's chairs and wouldn't trade them for the 60/40 no matter what. I guess if you plan on a 6th person riding with you or something you might want the split bench seat, but for me I like having the center console and my butt centered squarely over MY seat.

I haven't really noticed the head rests in the back because I'm never back there. They don't seem to be too much in the way when backing up or anything. This is pretty much the truck of my dreams, so it is pretty hard to find anything wrong with it.

Later,
LRHOGFAN
