Advice,from 01 to an 03......

Ok guy's here is my situation,
I really love my Screw, but the mile's are starting to rack up 40k to be exact. Now I know that's not real high, but I put on about 20-25k per year. My thought was maybe to jump to an 03 instead of an 04. I really don't want a new truck the 1st year it's out so I would be looking at an 05. By that time I will have 80-90k on it and it won't be worth ***** on a trade. Plus no mod part's out on the new style for a while.

Part 2,
I stopped by my local dealer today to talk to him about it. they know me real well since I buy new truck's every 3 year's from them. The truck I'm thinking about is a DSG 4x4 screw xlt. It tag's for 36,500. The dealer want's my truck and 11,500 which I think is a good price. I am looking at paying 31,500 for the new one and getting 19,000 for my trade with 40k on it. The new truck is loaded except for ent. system & FX4 package. It will have all the FX4 package option's except the wheel's and the decal's & the so called Rancho shock's.

Part 3,
My truck is paid off + I can either get 2000.00 rebate or 0.0% for 36 month's above & beyond the prices listed above.

Help me out with making a logical decision guy's
Wait and get an 05 or buy now and trade in 2 more year's.

Fall

I totally agree with your reasoning regarding miles, trade-in, and waiting for an 05. You're right, your 2001 with 90k on it will hardly make a dent in an 05, so if you can get a good deal now, go for it. However, 31,500 minus 19,000 trade is 12,500. Definitely take the 2k rebate over the 0% and that puts you at 10,500 + tax. Not bad if you've got the $.

My 02 only has 6k miles and I've been considering going to an 03 to get the 3.73's and then waiting for an 05 also.

How do you get an XLT up to $36,500 without the FX4? I've been looking at a few and they are right around $36k with 5.4, FX4, towing, buckets, power driver seat, 6cd, chrome steps, rear slider.

First,
Sorry about the math but I was also figuring the wrong truck.
Here is the option's with out the fx4. Here are the retail #'s
base -31090
Captain's chair's- 490
5.4l v8- 800
17" tires -340
3.73 ls- 285
skid plates-160
power moonroof - 810
sliding wdw - 125
trailer tow - 350
dual media radio - 125
bed xtender - 195
power seat - 360
Price come's to 35815 minus 1100 CTT discount come's to 34715.
I can get at invoice for 30675 minus the 2000 rebate=28675.
28675 minus 19000 for my truck =9675 + tax ect...

The #'s are not exact but pretty close a few other little charge's in there but you get the idea. My other big reason is also to have the 3.73 ls.

I am going to get to your delima soon, but I may wait for the 04's.

I think that you get the most bang for your buck with trucks that are less than 3 years old and I got my truck in August of 2001 so in August of 2003 the new 04's should be out.

Right now is unfortuanatly a bad time to be selling any veihcle as the new cars/trucks have such good deals on them with 0% financing around every corner people are not willing to pay as much for the used cars/trucks.

Hopefully the financing will still be good when the 04's come out, if so I may be one of the first to get in one! Or at least I will try...

New engine, new style, new chassis, hopefully not too many new problems, I know what you mean by waiting for the 05's.

Kinda like software never buy version 1.0.

I would go for the 03. I think from what I see is the 04 looks cheaper and very square and will have a much higher price tag too. Also like you say never buy a first year production vehicle. Now you have to wait till 05. My opinion is from what I have seen, I do not like the new style 04 or the new style 03 of the Harley Edition for that matter. Your call

Thumbs up

FALLSCREW,
I suffered from the same delema your having, 2 months ago my '01 had 35k mi., but I had a buyer for $25K. Ordered a '03 Lariat, FX4, roof, etc. List was $36,885. Paid $32,694-$2,000 rebate. With a difference of $5,500 + tax etc. Oh how sweet it is.

Remarkable difference between the 01 and 03. Seats are 100% improved, much quieter inside, 3.73 ratio is wonderful (does get better mileage around town and highway is about 2 mpg better than my 01). Go for it!

Try to sell before you trade. You can usually get more on the street than at the dealer. There's a little tax difference you have to figure on but you still usually come out better selling.

I like the look of the new body style sketch's. I would'nt mind waiting just don't want the first year out. As far as the 04 looking cheaper I can't tell that from the sketch I saw.
I also don't want to sell out rigt b/c it's a pain in the a$$. It alway's seem's to me like everyone want's to buy my stuff until I go to sell it. Like people say OH man let me know when your going to sell & I'll buy it. Unfortunatey those are the people who usually can't afford it.

Unhappy

I can attest to the poor resale market at this time... had my truck for sale in the paper and on my website for 3 weeks without so much as a nibble. I've never had a problem selling a vehicle outright before. Luckily, I got the new truck for exactly invoice, minus $1500 rebate and ended up getting $1k over KBB trade-in value for my '01. Fair enough of a deal.

Fallscrew,

Not to pick on your math, but the rebate will come AFTER the tax. They treat it like money down, not equity that affects the taxable deal. Take new truck price, subtract trade in value, add the tax, then deduct down payment, rebate, etc. and you have the bottom line.

Good luck with your trade. I love my '03.

Marc,
I'm not worried about that. I was just kind of round figuring. Either way it's not gonna cost me much to get into a new truck. I just am not sure if I should do it or not. I am going to talk to them today or tomorrow again to see what's up . I just can't decide on a color. It seem's pretty slim picken's in the color dept. I think I will go with Dark Shadow Gray though.

Thank's for the info
