I looked at the LED flashlights and didn't like the output very much. For the recharger power, I tapped in the main power wire for the seats and put a fuse and switch inline. I like the location because it's easy to get when in or out of the truck.

Also about the LED lights, there cool and last a long time (battery life as well) but the light is only good for up close, you can't focus the light from an LED very well at all. Some flash lights (really expensive) have a hallagon bulb in the middle of an array of LEDs this way you get a nice beam and the flood from the LEDs.
Have you seen an LED flashlight from a distance? The light emitted is still brilliant. Granted, it won't illuminate at great distances like a MAG will, but for visibility, it's an eye catcher. You will be noticed.

The major advantage is you don't need to worry about dead batteries unless you leave it on for a month or you don't put fresh batteries in every year. Another advantage is, you don't have to worry about burnt out bulbs.

dcovell,

Yes, I did just go through the floor. It is a good location, seat moves with no problem and I can grab it if I need to with the door closed.

I purchased the clips at Home Depot.

Good Luck!

Can you guys get at them down by the drivers side seat without opening the door? I have a 5-D cell Brinkman...similar to a maglight..maybe a bit heavier that I keep under the drivers seat. the head sits in the little carpet well where the seat mounts (front inboard bolt) and has never rolled around on me. I have the clips but haven't figured out where to mount them. Was thinking about the ceanter area of the backseat floor (I have the KR... buckets/console in back). Anybody tried this?...seems like it would be easy to grab.

I have one of the little LEDs in the glovebox....but I don't think I would intimidate anyone threatening to whack them upside the head with a penlight.

A little off topic, but the best of both worlds, LED and Halogen for not too much money is the Petzl DUO with the LED and the Halogen bulb. It is designed to be worn on the head, you look a bit funny wearing it when your working on your truck or just around the house but having both hands free it so worth it. Around $70.

I use mine for everything especially caving and camping... I own the standard duo so I purchased the mod kit that replaces the standard buld with the LEDs, great for up close and last a long time, plus when you need the beam with the ability to focus, just flip a switch.

Good info guys......... Thanks. I'm about to replace my 3rd PLASTIC case flashlight (they all broke rolling around in my toolbox). It sounds like MAG is the way to go. And now I know where to put/mount it!

Hey Reelwork

Already have the Maglight, but where do you get the clips? If you know of a place in San Antonio that would be great, considering I'm from there.

Walmart, Home Depot, Ace Hardware. Bought mine at Walmart for a different vehicle but I seen them for sale at all three.

Personally, I would have t-tapped the wire inside the panel and run wire over to the driver's side of the vehicle; leaving the power point available and putting the light in a more convienient place.

I am currently looking for a place to mount my "charging crap" in my truck. I want to mount chargers for both a Streamlight Stinger and a MagCharger in the truck and am coming up empty in my SuperCab. Its times like these that make me wish I had a SuperCrew, but the extra cost wasn't worth it for me.
