99' 5.4 vs 02' 5.4

My first thread....just traded in my 99' supercab 4x2 with 5.4 for new 02' supercrew 4x4 with 5.4. I realize the new truck is heavier but this 5.4 seems less powerfull. Of course the truck is brand new and I have been driving pretty cautiously. Anyone out there notice any differences. I would also assume that the 4 wheel drive and larger wheels/tires makes a difference...regardless, I absolutely LOVE this truck.

Nice rig, my buddy just got an '02 Screw with the FX4 and 5.4 and it drives great. I have a 99 with the 5.4 and I think the power is about the same. That's a bigger truck and with the bigger tires it will feel different. Good luck with the new ride!!!!!!!!

Thanks...I really liked my last truck..hated to see it go. But the new truck is awsome. I am sure that it feels different due to the 4 wheel drive. I like the stiffer ride with the FX4.

Great forum here!

Don't forget the gearing! Your truck may have had diffrent gearing like the 3.73s or even a 4.10. The SCREW has the 3.55s and therefore may not seem as powerful.

The gearing was the same...thanks for the replies. I do miss the extra length in the bed but my dog sure likes the extra large back seat. And as a bonus, he also gets his own windows.

4wd makes a huge difference in acceleration vs 2wd. try smoking the tires on a 4x4 and then a 4x2...much easier on the 2wheeler...

I had a 98 Expy 4x4 EB loaded with the 5.4L, just traded it in for a 02 loaded Lariat Screw 4x4 with the 5.4L. I think they are the same, but the Screw seems to drive so much nicer!!!!
