sub box for screw
sub box for screw
I have been through the site and have seen many good set ups. I want to put the subs in the space behind the rear seats but am not sure how to go about it. Any advice greatly appreciated. Will like to hear all the info sub brands as well as box ideas. If anyone who has completed this task has any plans that they don't mind sharing I will also appreciate it. thanks.
Hey man - many people on here have done that install and should be responding soon. As another option, here is my thread in the sub forum of a box I just installed in my front console:

Hidden speaker holes in SCREW
I had the whole interior out of my SCREW when I was Dynamatting it and there are two 6x8 speaker holes in the side panels under the rear seat seatbelt covers. Seemed like a good place for a set of hidden subs (if they make that size)
You take out the back wall cover and then the upper side seat belt cover then the lower and there they are.

This is what I'm using. I've got it installed but haven't hooked it up since I haven't installed the amp yet (JL Audio 500/1). The guy I bought the Stealthbox didn't remove it until I heard it and it was simple awesome (and it was underpowered with the amp he was using).
Some pictures from the JL Audio website of the box.

FitsLate 2001-Up Ford F-150 and 2001 "Harley-Davidson" and Late 2001-2002 "King Ranch" editions (tall console)
The interior of Ford's hugely popular F-150 pickup was recently updated, necessitating the redesign of two Stealthbox models.
The new center console model is designed to fit the newer “tall” console design and also holds a single 10W3 inside of the factory center console shell. This model will fit any
newer F-150 with front bucket seats (including the “Harley-Davidson” and “King Ranch” editions).
The Hard Data:
Contains one 10W3v2-D6 in a down-firing sealed enclosure. 300 Watt power handling. Wired for 3 ohm mono. Stealthbox installs inside factory center console and fires down into the floor. Cupholders are not affected, console storage is significantly reduced. Will not fit in trucks with bench seats. The factory console is not supplied with the Stealthbox. Will not fit 2002 Super Crew "Harley-Davidson" edition.
Permanent modification of factory console is required. If Stealthbox is removed, the console cannot be easily re-installed.
In addition to this model we also offer a Stealthbox that installs under the rear bench seat of 2000-Up F-150 Super Cab trucks. Click here for this model.

2002 S'Crew - believe me, if I had an extra $500 to spend just on a sub box, I would have bought the JLAudio console setup. I am sure that sounds a heck of a lot better than what I made, but I only have about $80 invested in mine and it does a great job for an 8-inch sub.As with anything, it all boils down to what you want to spend!!!

I got mine from a friend of mine that was selling his SuperCrew. Paid $300 for it
I also have one for my 95 GT Convertible and I also paid $300 for it from another friend of mine who's wife was selling it off of the Convertible she was trading in. Well worth the $300 IMO

2002 S'Crew - yes, that price included the sub - Robdude30 gave me a sweet deal on the sub and I built the box for it.
xaccx - email Robdude30 - he has done the "behind-the-seat" install - the sub I used in my box was in his but was not enough, so then he built a new one with 4 8-inch subs.
Also, not sure if they have them in your area, but our local HiFiBuys (stereo shop) has a mold of the rear wall of the Supercrew that they use to make boxes.

Hi xsaccx.
When I build a box for my SCrew, I cut and lay in the MDF 1 piece at a time and fine tune to get a tight fit. It takes a while doing it this way, but works well and you end up with a box that fits all the contours of the floor and wall like a glove.
I don't have any plans or dimensions and very few pictures. Check out my gallery for the pics. The single sub enclosure was my first, a 2 sub enclosure was next, and currently the 4 sub box. I am in the process of rebuilding the 4 sub box to get a little more airspace and will definately take step by step pics of this one.
Good Luck!

robdude,
big thanks and your truck is sweet. I think I am going to buy the wood and start playing. I want to try and fit two S10L7's that should give me enough bass, what do you think?

Guys ,
I definetley want a box under the rear but how difficult is it to wire an amp and sub to factory h/u?
the two boxes i looked at are
Q-logic box from cructhfield
http://www.crutchfield.com/cgi-bin/...CFSC296&o=m&a=1
Also this box
http://www.subbox.net/store/index.html
does someone make a connector similar to the one clarion uses
http://www.crutchfield.com/cgi-bin/S...fo&i=020FCS1OE
Clarion powered sub box- the one that sits in the front center
http://www.crutchfield.com/cgi-bin/S...0&I=020FF150LG
or can you somehow cut and use this adapter to feed any amp?
thanks

I will post progressive pics of my sub install if someone can tell me how. I don't have a info list here with pics of my truck or whatever either but, I have a digital camera. I am installing 2 Diamond Audio 10" subs in an MDF 3 sided box, with a flush mount amp rack built into the middle (punch 800 2ch) behind the rear bench in my supercrew
xsaccx,
The trickiest (is that a word?) part of building the box is getting the depth right. The most depth can be obtained in the center of the rear wall and the passenger side of the rear wall. Mount the subs as close to the floor as possible. This will help with depth as well as allow part of the sub to fire under the rear seat a little (at least for the one on the passenger side).
Also, be careful not to let the rear seat come in contact with the sub surround when the seat is up.
There is very little space to work with, but you can make it work if you are careful.
I'm not sure about the subs you are referring to, but someone on here has installed 2 12W7s. If the depth is less than the 12W7s, then it should work.
bigriggs,
Check out the gallery section of this site. It is pretty self-explainatory about uploading pics. "Subs-in-a-SCrew" is a hot topic around here and alot of us will be interested to see how your install goes. Keep us posted.
