Spare tire hand crank

Spare tire hand crank
I recently purchased a 2002 Supercrew from a Ford Dealer. After reviewing the instructions for lowering the spare tire (using the lock provided) I determined that the tire crank handle that is supposed to be stored in the engine compartment is missing. I called the salesman and the service manager as the Ford website requests, each told me the supercrew does not require the crank. I'm wondering if this is true or did they forget to instal the thing prior to shipment. Thanks for your kind response.

My 2001 has a crank on it, its a long metal peice that is about 4-5 feet long, located on my SCREW under the hood at the front. It is clipped in by metal clips.
The lug wrench is diffrent and the only use for this piece is to lower the spare tire.
I know because I have had to use my spare once.
It looks kinda like this...

Basically you put it in that hole on the bumper and then use it as a crank. The tire is connected to a cable that is wraped around a spindle. It works well and I think Ford did a good job thinking this one out, but you HAVE to have this crank (or a REALLLLY long flat head screw driver as that is what the tip looks like.
So if you dont got this then they are giving you a bunch of crap.

Me thinks you are getting the run around too. I too had to use it to get the spare down once when in the woods. And yes, the factory jack is tedious and a pain. I ended up going to Sears and picked up a bottle jack that fits in the spot the factory jack went in for $18. Now that I have it, I'll probably never get another flat. <knock><knock> on wood!

Damn! If they'd lie to you about something so "trivial" as a tire crank, just think what they'd resort to on something really pricey?
I'd drive to the dealer, pop the hood on a truck like yours and then show the bozos. They'll probably say they misunderstood or that YOU lost it.
Dealers like that suck.
