RockPick - Question about DEH-7400..

I am looking at the Pioneers and actually have narrowed down to the 7400 or the 9400. I reely like the 9400 with its 13 EQ bands and the ability to tone either the front or rear channels. Now, before I get bombarded with the "price is much less for the 7400" I can get a 9400 for right around $320... Is it worth the extra cost for the 9400 over the 7400, rather would you pay the $80 or so more for the 9400?

Anyone with either of these units please respond. I just now that RP has one...

Thanks in advance,
Chris (ReelWork)

I just bought the Pioneer DEH-P940MP

I chose the Pioneer DEH-940MP over the lesser Pioneer models, because of the ability to read WMA format, in addition to MP3. Maybe not something most people care about, but I have my entire CD collection now on my computer, in the WMA (windows media audio) format. I think the Pioneer DEH-940MP (or 9400MP) is one of the few decks that can read WMA. I also needed a high end deck to go with my 2 amps, upgraded Polk Audio Speakers and Subwoofer.

Go with the DEH-940MP in my opinion. In addition to reading WMA, it will give you more control as you state, more screen options and functions. And the 7400 I believe has only 2 pre outs instead of 3, and they are 2v instead of 6v.

One of the coolest features of the DEH-P940MP is the remote that clips to the steering wheel.

By the way, if you can get the DEH-940MP for $320 bucks, take it and run. Thats a great price. I paid $515 recently, and that was about 300 below the retail price.

I have the 7400 and it's a good deck, but if you can get the 940 for $320, I agree with ryan, TAKE IT AND RUN!!!

Rockpick here.

I'm in agreement with the other guys, if you can pull the 9400 for $320, hop on it. Sounds like a great deal. I know you have alot more control over 'stuff' with the 9400 vs the 7400.

Personally, I wouldn't go for the 9400 just for WMA. I mean, I guess there are some folks out there that use it frequently but, me, I use mp3 99.9 times out of 100.

I do like my DEH-P7400. It's a nice deck. You know the pros, now, here are the cons that I've noticed over the past month and a half of ownership.

1) Slow to find the next track on a CD or MP3. Not really a big deal but, I have noticed it. It takes like 4 or 5 seconds versus 2 seconds on a regular CD. I know... I know... that's really picky but, I'm just telling you that I've noticed it. It's not that big of a deal to me personally. I suspect the 9400 would be the same.

2) I have XM. LOVE IT... LOVE IT... LOVE IT... but, the drawback on the Pioneer decks is that they only display a portion of the title/artist. In short, if the song is Guns N' Roses - November Rain. I may only see GUNS N' RO - November R. Get the picture?

3) Hrmm. I'm struggling to think of other things. Oh yeah. Glare off the screen to the point you can't read the LED. Yes, that's a long shot on complaints but, it's one.

I think that's it. I looked, and looked hard, at the 9400. I'm not a 'music fanatic' and couldn't justify the extra bucks for the features that I was gaining. I just wanted something to run my XM that played MP3's. I found it. I know I made the right decision for me. Plus, both the 7400 and 9400 have RCA outs for that camo sub. Much nicer than splicing.

That's my story and I'm sticking to it....

Thanks for the replies...

Right now, I am on hold due to respecting the wifes' wishes on "frivolous spending"... I am the CFO for us but I still have to keep the little lady happy... I think I'll take her shopping and blow a wad of cash on her.. Then ask again...

I'm learning fast for a person that's only been married 4 months, huh?

Question

You mind me asking where you found that good of a deal on the 9400. I have just about made my mind up on an Alpine 7894, but I like Pioneer also and actually considered the 7400. The Alpine Mosfett power is more though (60x4).
