Tailgate Switch?

This is probably somewhere in the manual, but I must have overlooked it.

There's push-switch on the bottom of the tailgate. What does it do?

Um.. you might want to describe what you are referring to, specifically the location on the tailgate....

Open the tailgate. Then look at the back edge of the truck bed, where the base of the tailgate meets it. There's a small push-button switch there that's depressed when the tailgate is closed.

I thought maybe it was for some warning light inside to let you knw the tailgate was down, but that doesn't appear to be the case.

I've noticed that a few times while detailing my truck. I'm curious about it as well. Looks like some type of sensor to detect if the tailgate is up or down however, as you mentioned, there's no warning lights or anything that are in the interior that seemingly utilize that 'switch'.

I wonder what it is...

Left, Right, Center, Center right, Center Left??? Between the tailgate and the bed of the truck? The only thing on my truck in the area you are describing is a stop that will not let the tailgate go past horizontal. This comes in handy if the cable breaks.

Toward the right, on the bottom. Go look. You can't miss it.

It might be something put there for future addons/accessories. Can you look underneath that area and see the wiring for it? I don't have access to the our supercrew right now, so I can't look myself. It is an interesting point, I've never noticed it before.

What I'm thinking is that there might be an accessory that allows the tailgate to be opened by remote and used with a cover/canopy. The switch could then be hooked up to act as another door, similar to the expedition. *shrug* This would allow things like the horn to beep twice if everything wasn't closed completely.

Unhappy

I don't have one. Nothing there that I can see. Maybe it's only on the Lariat.

Red face

Ok. I'm embarrassed to say that up until just now, I had never even put my finger on this piece. I was going by sight only.

It is, as was already stated, just a pin to keep the tailgate from going past horizontal if the tailgate "wires" were to fail. :o

I will now slink slowly into the woodwork again...
