Hard tonneau covers

I quickly sifted through the previous posts about tonneau covers, but found little regarding what I want.

I am looking to buy a hard tonneau cover that is removable. I want to be able to remove it easily at any given time and it also needs to support itself for loading/unloading the bed. Is the "perfect" tonneau cover available? What manufacturers offer this?

Not sure if the "perfect" hard toneau exists. Most of them are self-supporting via gas struts or linkages. Can't imagine who would sell one that wasn't self-supporting.

Most of the recent models are also easily removeable; the forward/hinged edge usually unhooks or unclamps very easily, making it "quickly" removeable. it's the "easily" part that is tough. Most hard covers are somewhat heavy and one-person removal is usually impossible, unless you have the luxury of an overhead hoist system rigged up. Two men can usually handle removal, and a third person is welcome. Reinstallation is also somewhat of a struggle, and can be a frustrating experience with out two or three people.

I love my Leer lids, but they can be difficult to reinstall sometimes. Just the nature of the beast, I think. Fortunately, not necessary too often.

Thumbs up Jason "dimension" Lid

I bought mine here in the metro area for about $700. It sits on the bed rails but I have the dark green truck with dark grey bedrails. It's a C-Clamp system and they offer it with the remote lock unlock.

Good Lid.

Thumbs up

I have the GemTop Classic on my Screw. I love it too! Comes off by releasing the gas shocks and pulling back. Two folks and 3 minutes later, it is stored in my garage.

I went with an Undercover. It is a hard cover than only weighs 47#'s. It is made of the same material as the bed rails. Had it for about 4 months and like it a lot. It really fit my needs. It overwraps the bed to make it good and weatherproof. Here is a link with pictures from a forum mebers truck. Good luck

Hard tonneau

SeaDoo,
Check out www. undercoverinfo.com. I am buying mine in a couple of weeks. They are very cool and only weigh about 55lbs. I have seen them on a truck and it is great. Fits very well and comes on and off with ease. I researched tonneau for a long time. I talked to Ray at Undercoverinfo.com. He is great. He will answer any and all of your questions. If Ray can't answer them he will have the owner Steve contact you. I am looking to customize the inside of mine. Steve called and gave me the measurements I needed. He had to call a friend who owned a truck like mine to get specific questions. That is the kind of customer service you can expect. Great people and great product. Can wait to get mine. The local dealer has it for $650 ( I think) installed. Can't remember the exact price put it is close to that. Check them out you will be impressed.

Can any of these tonneau covers be installed over the gray plastic bedrailing that is put on at the factory?

Snugfit. On/off quiickly & easily. Works without modifying the truck over plastic covers. Looks good (black matches SCrew trim).

Had a hard cover on my previous Scab and loved the look and security but hated taking it off/on. Went with an advance K-cover this time. Hard type cover, but folds in half so you can carry tall items without completely removing and only weights 30 pounds, so its easy for just ME to take off. Downside, 4 keys (one on each corner) to unlock/remove. Only comes in black, not as secure as glass. I do like the painted ones best , but am willing to trade for convenience.

I have the Pace Edwords Roll Out hard cover and love it. Very high quality unit, BUT, also VERY high price at $950 installed.

Oh..... just thought of one more thing. The one problem with the Pace Edward cover I have (not sure if they all have this problem?) is that it takes up 6" of space on both sides of the truck bed opening for the track. That is something I hate about it. Oh well.

Good luck!!
