What gears with 2003 'crew?
Hey Chris,
The FX4 code is 55R, and it doesn't include 3.73 gears in 2002 as I understand. The 2002 Lariat that I looked at was an FX4 with the 3.55s. This year, the 2003 FX4s are comin with the 373s as part of the package, along with the wheels, tires, skid plates, and the most important, sticker. I was pleased to find this, because it was one of the factors that encouraged me to order the '03. Also, I liked the new color, and figured mine would be different for a while, until everyone ordered burgandy.
Hope this helps,
Matt

My understanding is that the 2003 will have these gears, and only with the 17" wheels. Ford realized that the diameter of the wheels was too much for the 3.55 gears and was in turn effecting gas mileage in the city, performance, and was most likley causing more strain on the driveline.

Its only standard with the FX4 package. I too have an 03 Screw on order pretty similar to Mtn Mike. Can't wait to get it!!!!

Im sorry I need to clarify that, the 3.73 gears are standard if you get the optional 17" wheels. Otherwise I think the stock non FX4 4x4 has the 16 wheels with the 3.55s, but why would you want that?
It looks like it is a $285 (MSRP) option on the 4X2 Lariat and King Ranch. Shows a code of XB6!! Go To Kelly Blue Books website and build your vehicle you should see the option there.

Hopefully Ford will upgrade the 5.4L by mid October when my ordering deadline arrives, but I'm sure Elvis will be touring again before that happens. Maybe a 4.10 swap will be the best bet with the 17's, that should put me at 1,913rpm's at 62mph in OD.
