Bedliners
I'm a fan of the Ford branded drop-in bedliner. I've had them since I had my first F-150 back in 1987. I have yet to see any damage caused by the bedliner. Besides, even if it does rub the paint off to the metal, that won't really be a problem since it doesn't get wet anyway. If I'm not mistaken, I also believe that the metal is galvanized so rust is really not going to be a problem for a real long time.
The advantage to having a plastic bedliner is the protection it gives the bed of the truck. I can drop a 50 lb rock in the bed of the truck and not worry about any damage. Would a person with a sprayed in liner feel the same?
It's also cheap and I've gotten the dealer to "throw it in" for all the trucks I've bought from them.

Okay, Plastic liners will, WARP, CRACK and get HOLES in them. The CARGO also slides like crazy. There is the annoying humps through out the bed! Water gets trapped underneath the bed, Rust occurs! These are all well known facts about Plastic liners. Then we have spray on liners that are much more durable. Rhino I am not that impressed with Rhino will scratch and start looking like crap. The texture makes it to hard to slide anything, meaning the cargo does not move whatsoever. Line-X looks much nicer to me with a fine texture to it making cargo easier to slid and it does not scratch as much as Rhino. I had Rhino and then I saw and heard about Line-X and I would have gotten the Line-X had that been around at the time. But remember the spray in liners also add alot of weight to the truck, 6-7 gallons sprayed on!
I will also tell you that this time around with the new Screw I went with the BEDRUG, everyone that has seen it loves it and I like it much better. It all depends what you will use your truck for work or pleasure. Pleasure= Bedrug, Work= Line-X. End of Story..

Just my opinion....
I have a Rhino liner in my Screw and love it. The only problem that I had with the drop in bedliners was that my dog slid all around. That must make her go nuts! Front to back....Side to side....lucky she didn't get sick. There are good and bad things about both. I personally do like the spray ons better because stuff doesn't slide around. But on the other hand stuff doesn't slide around, which means that you have to lift everything heavy into the bed.
The basic truth is to get a good installer. Mine here in Dallas had a book of his work with like 200 trucks in it and guaranteed that I would like it or he would spray more in. Cost me $400.00 with tax and he threw in a new bugguard. I really don't see a big difference between Line-X and Rhino. Everyone will praise what they have on their truck so don't take advice from someone who says "Rhino Rules or Line-X Rules!" I woul dhave to say that the installer makes 95% of the difference.

Madd...
You are worried about the weight "6-7 gallons add a lot of weight"... You have got to be kidding me!
I have heard a lot of silly things but what you are saying with the 6-7 gallons.. Think about this, that is a max of 70 pounds (going with a heavy 10 pounds/gallon - water is 8 pounds/gallon) which is nothing for a truck and probably mot much more (maybe even less) than a drop in liner and probably not much more than a bedrug... Additionally, it is added insulation...
If you are so concerned with weight, maybe you should take that full size spare under the bed and put a small economical spare tire to save a few more pounds..
I use my truck for pleasure, but it's not a van, it's a truck... and judging by the fact that you use a rug, you most likely are not weighing that thing down..
Just my .02...
BTW, you are dead on about those drop ins.... Very well put..

I have had no problems so far with my BedRug. Highly recommend. I use with and without the cover. Rains frequently in WA state, and the Bedrug material just shrugs it off. Really amazing material in my opinion.
Once I parked under a tree, and some birds did their thing on it, however it just sprayed right off the hose.

OK...
Maybe you could:
1) Spray on a Rhino for Durability..
2) Spray on a Line-X over it for texture..
3) Install a drop in over the line-X to slide stuff in easier..
4) Attach the bedrug to the drop in to make it look sharp..
Then everyone will be happy!!!
Just kidding everyone... Had to be a smarta@#.

I have the Speedliner spray in. Not sure how widely available, but has been in the truck since Christmas 01. Paid $325. Have hauled lumber, furniture, etc. and have decided this stuff is impossible to scuff or tear. My last two trucks 97 F150 and 99 Silverado (proof that I don't know everything) had plastic liners. If you do decide to use the plastic you can pull out the liner and cover the inside of the bed with axle grease to avoid the rubbing, rust scenario. Personally I'll never go back to plastic (or Chevy for that matter). BTW the Bed Rug looks really great, but I know absolutely nothing about them. Good luck

My $.02:
In '96 I put a plastic (good quality) liner into my new '97 Ranger. I would remove the bed liner once a year to clean out underneath it, as leaves and dirt would collect under it. It had holes cut into it to allow the original "tie-downs" to stick out, thus enabling stuff to get under it. I noticed severe rub (down to bare metal) at the wheel wells and at the end of the bed.
I replaced the Ranger with my F-150 Sport.
In '98 I had a Rhino sprayed into my new '99 F-150. Still have it and I still LOVE it. The "tie-downs" were removed, sprayed under, then re-installed. So too for the tail gate and cab access panels. With the spray in liners, you get to keep the "tie-downs" and the notches in the bed design that allow you to segment your bed into multiple tiers. I haul everything from groceries to gravel and nothing shifts around as I drive. It's the only way to go

ReelWork,
Personally, I for one was not worried about the weight of the 6-7 gallons of Spray on. I just happen to hear a few other people complain about it at the Line-X shop. I had the Rhino in my other truck and went with the Bedrug in my new truck. My truck is not used as a work truck. The Bedrug though must only weigh maybe 5 lbs max and I can sleep on it if I had to. It also is a great place for chicks under the stars and moon at night. Wish I had this truck and Bedrug many years ago it would have saved me a whole lot of money in hotel bills! Whoooooo,Haaaaaa!

The more I thought about bed carpets, what a joke.......
Madd, If that bedrug only weighs 5 pounds, I have some ocean front property in Arizona.... If that is indeed true, then just based on the weight/mass (or lack thereof) that would undoubtedly be a crummy product with very little longevity and couldn't be all that comfortable as you put it.
Ya know, I didn't feel as strongly about this last week as I do now but, I just got back from fishing. While I was on this trip hauling coolers, rods and all the other gear in the back, I couldn't help but reflect on this post and I realized just how foolish/silly it is to buy a truck and basically make a trunk out of the bed where you have to be careful with anything more than bags of groceries.... It does look great in the back of that White SCrew but I guess I feel that if you want a carpeted bed, then go get a suburban or a Crown Vic. A truck is a Truck...
We all do whatever suits us, just like I will do, but I use my truck for fun, I am not a contractor or anything of the sort. I am a guy that likes the outdoors and likes to have fun doing activities like hunting, fishing, camping, going to the beach and even doing yard work etc... That's why I bought a truck over an Expedition! Maybe some of you all should have gone the other way and bought an Expedition since it seems that there a few that just want the "look".... Personally, if I want a rug in the bed, I can put one down on top of the sprayed-in liner and if I actually want to lay down inside it with my wife, I'll put a comforter down - There, case solved... That having been said, I will also get up the next day and not have the slightest worry about throwing gear in the bed or what may be on the bottom of my cooler or other stuff for the sake of getting my precious and prestine truck bed carpet dirty...
God forbid I do that in a truck... LOL
What did you buy? A truck or a Cadillac? Or, do you want the look of a truck, but don't want to be seen in something like a Cadillac? Something to think about....
Just my .02... I am off my soapbox...
Take care...

I think a lot of people who trash the drop in liners have not seen the Ford liner. The one in my Screw has the Ford logo on the front and a very durable and good looking finish. After almost a year of use, the liner looks as good as the day it was put in.
These liners from Ford fit under the bed rails, so water and dirt do not get under them. The tie downs are bolted through the liner, so no dirt or water can get through. I have seen some cheap liners where they cut a big access hole in the liner to allow access to the tie downs, which allows dirt and water to get under the liner.
My liner has not cracked, or warped, or gotten holes in it. It cost 225.00 installed, and in my opinion, looks better than a spray in.
Some spray liners look great when new, but when used hard, they all scratch and dis-color, and end up looking like crap.
My .02 worth.

hi Reel
I believe the bedrug works and plays harder than you might think. Dirt/grease/water are not issues for this heavy duty material.
Maybe you feel the bedrug looks too good to be in a truck, and it is more of an image issue you are expressing. Not much I can do about that.
