DIY Oil change

Been getting my oil changed at the fast lube places but have decided to just DIY since I do with our other cars. I thought I read somewhere in the past about it being difficult to do at home (somthing about needing to turn the wheel to access the filter). It's tough to do that once the truck's on the ramps. Any help would be appreciated.

I have a 2001 5.4 4X4 S'Crew with skid plates. The only problem I had was trying to remove the factory filter, it was tight. On the 4x4 there is a plastic drip tray or channel because there is no way to remove the filter without spillage. If you can get past that its fine, just wipe the plastic tray well when your finished.

On my 2001 4x2 I have to turn the steering wheel to the right in order to get the filter out.

I have a 2001 4x2 and I have no problem with having to turn the wheel. It is tight, but I manage to work it out. I also have a metal drip tray under where the filter goes (instead of plastic) that always drips all over the driveway. They should have made that a better design so it all drips in one spot.

Thumbs up Oil filter

Try installing a 6" lift kit!!! I have no problem accessing my filter without turning the wheel
