Question Frontal offset crash test???

Guys,

Just wondered if anyone knew whether or not the frontal offset crash test has been done for the Supercrew? Consumer Reports came out with a test on the Supercrew and Avalanche and Dodge Ram and could not recommend the Supercrew based on these crash results. I thought they had only been done on the Supercab F-150.

Thanks

crash tests

NHTSA has tested most model Fords.
NHTSA

Insurance institute has only tested Super Cab
IIHS

You are right that IIHS has only tested the SuperCab. Most Super Cabs are going to perform badly. Not enough support in the "big opening".

Look at the results for Dodge on the Insurance link testing <2002 vs 2002. The main difference is they tested the Extended Cab and the 2002 Full four door model.

it is pretty sad of cr to extrapolate the results of a supercab test and impose them on a supercrew. the structures of these two trucks are very different because of the B pillar which the s-crew has and the supercab doesn't...shame on CR!!!

According to the 2002 test of the 2x4 SuperCrew it has 5 stars for both driver and passenger frontal crashes. The SuperCab has 4 stars for driver side and 5 for the passenger side frontal crash.

And the F150 SuperCap gets a 5 star rating in both 2001 and 2002 for the side impact test for both passengers and the driver. The SuperCrew in my opinion would be the same if not better for the side impact test as the SuperCab.

I'm feel very safe in my truck so I don't worry too much. I just watch out for myself and others around me and try not to do anything stupid.

The test here are not offset so the truck may indeed to worse in a offset crash...

Also I have seen some of the crash pics and heard some of the stories on this board and I feel even more confident that this is a safe truck.

Most accidents that I see on the road are automobile to automobile. A more massive auto will cause more damage to a less massive auto. So if my +5000 lb truck hits or is hit by a +3000 lb car, the laws of physics say that I win. On a bigger scale, how many cars look like a car when they hit a Mac truck? It’s the same reason some insurance companies raise premiums on big SUV’s, because they cause more damage to smaller cars that they hit. Yet SUV’s, as a whole, are not highly rated in crash tests.

On the consumer reports issue, I find it interesting that the Tundra is rated safer than any of the other tested trucks in the IIHS offset crash test yet in their own injury claim rate comparison with all other vehicles both the Ford and Chevy are better than the Tundra. I believe the injury claim rate is an indication of real world accidents. So in real world conditions both the Ford and Chevy have few injury claims than the Tundra according to their own surveys.

Just some rambling thoughts.

either that or Ford and Chevy drivers are just better drivers.....combine that with the fact that there are much fewer Tundras then Fords and Chevys.

and as for the laws pf physics....my father was killed driving in a van by a kid driving a sunfire. he was killed by the one thing we think makes us safer.....the B pillar......oh yeah it was also a frontal offset acccident.

don't get me wrong I feel much safer in my screw then I do any of my other vehicles.

Laws of physics still apply. My sisters freinds '72 caddie was totaled by a Harley. The Harley was just traveling at +70 mph when it hit her parked car. She wasn't in it.

i.e. f=ma

i was recently in my screw and hit by drunk driver...the screw held up well...and i walked away ...im still alittle bothered by the effects of the 50 mph+ rear end collision...

but im glad i was in a 4x4 screw...sad to say my screw died and has been replaced by a Harley Davidson screw...damn the bad luck..

im hoping never to be a crash dummy again...

I was wondering if any of you have had a front end crash with a Grill Guard on? I know it wouldn't help much in a high speed crash but what about a 5 mile an hour crash? I have kept my Tow hitch on sticking out 6 inches from the back of my scew and Some bastard hit it a few weeks ago and totally dented in his acura integra and didn't even put a stratch on my hitch ball. I witnessed the crash and I had a few words for him. I think he got a little intimidated cause he ran into his house.
