2002 SCrew, 5.4L, 4x4, FX4, 3.55LS with 6200 miles.

I've been tracking fuel consumption on ownersite.com since I got the truck. My MPG have been steadily getting better since day 1.

Best 16.86
Worst 12.35
Average 14.19

Mine is a combination of around 60% city and 40% highway. I don't drive it hard either.

I tow my Malibu ski boat with it and it does great. My brother has a 4.6L SCab and gets about 1 mpg better than mine. If I were to do it again, I'd stick with the 5.4L.

Last time I checked I was at 16.5 in general ( mostly Chicago rush hour 'traffic' aka 3 lane wide parking lot ).

The time I towed a loaded tandem well cargo trailer from Chicago to Sheboygan, WI at 75+ mph I got ~ 7 to 10 mph it was a windy rainy day.

I need to check again now that the electric fans are on, when I remember to do this. It has not been at the top of my list as of late ( takes a whole lotta time to do mpg rating )

I am getting 13.1 but I bought my SC in May and have yet to turn the A/C off because I live in the desert. I bought a Retraxx bed cover in hopes of getting some mileage back. Still sitting in my office waiting to be installed. After that, I may go the air filter route.

I bought my truck about 1 month ago, so far in 3 tanks I am averaging between 13-14mpg. I am still under 1000 miles and most of my driving is around town. After the 500 mile break in point I have been testing the performance capabilities of the motor (read: frequent full throttle applications). I have a 5.4, and had several extended test drives with a 4.6. Statistically, the 4.6 is not too far of the that of the 5.4, but what I prefer about the 5.4 is its ability to more effortlessly move the truck away and get it up to speed. In all my test drives of 4.6 equipped s-crews, the trucks had less than 100 miles on them and as I knew I wouldn't be buying them I did not allow the motor to rev to its full potential. So my thought is in a drag race the 4.6 might not be too far off of a 5.4, but the power won't come on until the tach is higher in the rpm range.

Now if I could average 17-18 with mine, I would be better off than with my old 4.0 sohc motored explorer.

My 5.4 01 SC has about 11000 miles now and I have been averaging 16.5 with a 70% Hwy, 30% City. I noticed that if I keep my tires at 35 I'm able to get 17 or better mpg. BTW, I love my truck and would still drive it even if it gets 10 mpg! I know I made the right decision in getting the 5.4!

It's nice to read all the messages about the trips you guys have made. Perhaps we can start another thread where we show some of the places we have been with our trucks. I'll be on vacation soon and going near Lake tahoe, CA, I'll take my digital camera with me and post some pictures soon.

I've tracked mine on ownersite also, I drive about 6 miles one way to work, but put on a lot of road-trip miles. At 16,000 miles I average just under 15 mpg.

Here's more data on my mpg

Trip to Cincinnati, OH from Raleigh, NC on 7/08

1. 350.5 miles 20.158 gallons 17.387 mpg (Raleigh to Barboursville, WV NC, WV Mountains with just me)
2. 395.3 miles 21.739 gallons 18.184 mpg (Barboursville to Cincy and then on to Sidney, OH just me, then 2 adults to Sidney (100 miles, 2 adults and 2 kids back to Cincy from Sidney)
3. 348.9 miles 20.294 gallons 17.192 mpg (Some in town driving with 2 adults and 2 kids, Cincy to Princeton, WV with just me)
4. 220.6 miles 12.130 gallons 18.186 mpg (Princeton, WV to Raleigh, with just me)

ARE Tonneau was added at 13K miles. Up to that point, the max mpg was 18.108 mpg, min was 12.932 mpg and the average was 15.026. With the Tonneau (about 19 fillups), max mpg is 18.186 mpg, min is 13.386 mpg and average is 16.040 mpg or about a 6.75% increase in mpg with the Tonneau (avg).

Mileage

2002 Screw XLT w/4.6 engine. Purchased new in March 2002. I have tracked all expenses since then. Current mileage about 5500.

Usually get 13 -14 mpg around town (25-45 mph with lots of traffic lights) and 17-18 mpg on trips on divided highways at 80 mph with cruise control. Here in the El Paso desert with temps at mid/upper 90s to low 100s, I run the ac just about all the time. It will be interesting to see if the milage increases in December and January with cooler weather.

I've got an 01 with close to 60K miles. at one time, I was getting 15-17 mpg. I've added a complete K&N Air system and a Gibson Kat-Back dual exhaust. Lately, I've been getting 12-13MPG. Not sure what's happening but I'm not too happy

still breaking it in

Only have 700 miles on my '03 4.6 and poured twice. Mainly driving to work 12 miles total (10 city & 2 highway). I've gotten 14.5 mpg both times. I'll be adding a tonneau next week and as the truck gets broken in, I hope the mileage improves.

2 local friends with 5.4. One is getting 13.5 and the other 15.
