Time for mods

I've had my silver screw for 1.5 years and its time for some mods. Wanted to get feed back on dual exhaust and bed caps. I want more performance without a "loud" set of pipes. Does more performance necessarily mean less gas mileage? Need some direction please.

Lastly, I am looking for a bed cap that does not look funny. I have seen too many bed caps whose cap windows are much smaller than the windows in the doors. I think ARE has a large side window, but not sure what the cost is. Any ideas? If you have some pics, leave me a link.

I would get the work done on both projects in Roanoke, VA or Northern Virginia

Thanks,

BCross

I have the gibson super truck exhst. Gibson says this is loud under towning, but I did not think so.
In general it is not loud, unless you get on it.

They say to opt for the rear, side dump if towning a tailer or if you have a cap on the back and use your rear slider.

Also adding a K&N FPIK took alot of engine compartment noise away, and helped the truck breath.

Another mod is a MAF, I went with the GMS MAF, but I have seen posts hee that people just used the 90mm Lighting MAF instead. I don't know whichis better, don't have dyno results between the 2.
I put in a vacuum gauge so I get an idea of where I am at millage wise.
With the mods above, if I keep my foot out of it, and don't let the vac drop below 10, I get about 13.5 to 14 in town.
When I mash the throttle the vac drops to 0, and I imagine that my millage is at about 2, the way it goes down the road.
Mods can help on the millage side, but if you use that added perf, it really drinks the gas. As with stock, it depends on how you drive it, you can get good millage or bad.

As for the Cap, I think you are talking about the heigth of the window. I can see that, I don't think it looks bad, but I don't think you like it.
Mine is a Century cap, I also got the Yackama racks for it ( that is the black line at the top of the cap, front and back.

Don't bust my hump..I know it is dirty. Finally got 2 dry days in a row here and I am working.

I tried the Flowmaster 40 series and hated it. I then installed the magnaflow cat-back and I love it. Power gain without low end torque loss and it's not too loud. Good luck. I've heard alot of good stuff about the gibson also, but I've never tried one.

I APPRECIATE YOUR COMMENTS. YOU ARE RIGHT, AS MY PREFERENCE I PREFER THE CAPS WITH LARGER WINDOWS AS SUPPOSED TO YOUR MODEL. HAVE YOU NOTICED ANY BETTER MILEAGE SINCE YOU GOT THE CAP?

I HAVE BEEN TOSSING AROUND THE IDEA OF A FIBK, BUT MY FORD DEALER SAID I WOULD NOT NOTICE ENOUGH DIFFERENCE TO PAY FOR THE INVESMENT.
I WILL LOOK INTO THE CAT BACK SYSTEMS YOU MENTIONED.

DID YOU DO ANY OTHER MODS?

THANKS,

BCROSS

supercrew1,
I got the Truck on a Thur, I got the cap on Sat. Did not even use a full tank of gas between to tell you an answer.
I have always put caps on more so for the storage out of the weather, and tiem to time I haul ladders, so a Toneau top would not work straight away ( don't care for the stake bed ladder racks ). Maybe a Top vs a cap is better for gas millage. I'll have to defer to someone else on that.

As for the FPIK. I did notice a accel difference, and Gas millage with the mods, keeping my foot out of it
Window sticker on mne says 15 for city, so 13.5 to 14 is not bad in my mind....maybe others get better ( in general is city driving with on ramp accel, to sit in traffic around here <g>.

There is a thread on how to modify the sock air intake to work like a K&N or AF1.
http://www3.sympatico.ca/jmc.chartier/air1.html
The another on this site on how to expose your element only, rather then replacing the whole thing.
https://www.f150online.com/tech/airbox.html
That would cost a K&N element for the truck, and some time. I did not do either of these as I do not like to bastardize my stock parts, in case I need them back on the truck.

The other exhst are the Ravin, JDM makes a kit ( more so L centered I think ?? ), flow master, magnaflow, and another that I am draving a blank on at the moment. Wait to see what others post in reply.

My total mods to date are not much:
K&N FPIK
Gibson Super Truck exhst
GMS MAF
Auto Meter Vac gauge
Infinity Tweeter ( helps the stock system with Miles Davis and the likes ).
Pro Fit cell phone mount.
Along with the standard vannilla appearance mods.

I am in the process of starting with Von Genaddi Design, Inc about a new center console. This woudl be similar to the Expy mod, but I want to keep the rear cup holders and add a Alpine GPS with amotorized screen to the front of the console in the area of where the screen is on the Blackwood console ( don't want the GPS screen out all the time..theft issue in mind ). Most expy console mods I have seeen put gauges in this area.
That is not done yet, I am still pulling together all the costs on it, looking to be in the $3,500 range I think ( The GPS ssytem I am looking at is the bulk of that number ).

I don't have plans on a chip or anthing, I don't run my truck on the street or the track. The things I do are to keep my sanity and as a hoby only.

Here is a link with a pic of our Screw. Snugtop XTR topper. We love it. $1400 with all the bells and whistles included in price. This topper is only made for Screws and Nison Frontiers. The only thing I do not like about topper is using cargo cage. It hits the hydraulic rams for window of topper. Have to release cage from sides then flip out. This happens with all toppers for Screws from what I have heard. Also has built in cargo carrier on the top, raised fiberglass with rubber protective strips and 2" stainless steel bars.
