Stake Holes ?
hey S'CrewLoose
here's how I carry mine ... 17' Mad River Canoe, it works great . This extention comes out of the hitch and about 3 feet past the lowered tailgate then bends at a 90 degree angle with a second part that looks like a "T" fits over the first part with several holes to raise and lower it to desired hight with a pin (which I replaced with a locking Hitch pin) on the ends of the "T" bar are places to tie down. It also works with the short end in the hitch and the long part sticking up with the "T" bar if you want to put the front of the canoe on the cab & back part on the "T" bar to free up the space in the bed. I made the flags (3" wide 2' long with a grommet at the top & doubled over and double stiched ) I also added the reflective tape (man that stuff is expensive!) I also got a piece of black outdoor carpet and a 3" wide & 18" long piece of closed cell foam to padd the "T" bar a little so as not to scratch up my canoe , I just attached the carpet and pad with some heavy duty zip ties . The hitch extender was about $120 but could easily be made cheaper the locking hitch pin , carpet , pad, reflective tape , flags and stuff was about $40 I'll try to find the website I bought it from when I get a chance so you can get a better view . Works great though , I can load up in about 5 minutes .
AHHH damn ... I can't post an attachment , haven't gotten around to creating a gallery ... humm I'll e-mail the 2 pics

Thanks Cyb,
looking forward to seeing the pictures....I am actually going to use almost the same set-up...I'll use the box hitch arm like you described and probably a single roof rack on the cab...I made a bike rack that used the hitch and figure I can either use parts of it or just make a seperate canoe rack....I just wanted to make up a quick rack to transport the boat home and to the lake for a test paddle.....I'll let you know what I do and take a picture.
Thanks again Ed

Thanks logical...I found out today while looking at the truck.....I'll go about it the way I figured I'd have to anyway......although, I'm now thinking about making a full length rack system from aluminum that runs from the rear and extends all the way over the cab and hood. we'll see....I need to do some research and play with some pictures to see how it would look....i'm thinking "Removable Safari Rack"
