Cool Cool Odometer Trick

My friend showed me a trick you can do with the odometer in your SCrew. Put the key in the ignition, and hold down the button that resets your trip odometer. Then turn the key till it stops without turning on the truck, but don't let go of the button. Wait until it says TEST, then turn on the truck. Make sure you hold down the button the whole time. Once the truck is on, you can scroll through different functions. I don't know what they all mean, but you can see how many miles you have till empty, that sort of stuff. I just thought it was pretty cool, so I thought I'd share my knowledge!

This page is just the codes themselves

This trick shows some pretty neat stuff. Just scroll through the options some and take a look.

Can't seem to get this to work.....Seems simple enough....I hold the trip reset button in, turn the ignition to key on engine off position, I get the 'test' readout on the odometer display, I start the engine while holding the button in, and continue holding the button...........after a second or two, the dispaly returns to the normal odometer readout. Can't get to the diagnostic displays you guys are talking about. Any Idea what I'm doing wrong?

I followed the same directions and when I got to the point where you start the vehicle I had the same problem you had.......I did it again following the directions up until the "TEST" came on the screen. I let go of the button and started to push it and it worked ok. I guess what I'm trying to say is that I didn't need to start the vehicle for it to work.

Thanks, that did the trick. I also discoved that once you get in test mode you can start the engine and continue to scroll through the options. I selected tach and it gave me a rpm readout as I was driving. Pretty Cool. Some of the options are obvious, others I haven't a clue. Anyone have a list of all of the options and what they are? Does the factory service CD include this info? I'm thinking about bying one off EBAY.

A lot of those weird readouts you are seeing are things like the codes on your computer like what program your computer has..so differnet models will have different codes..also any diagnostic codes will show up to..the cd..if it is the FORD not haynes or chilton cd..will tell you what those codes mean
