Weird solenoid prob....

I ran out to the local shopping center to get some cash from an ATM and when I jumped back in the truck it wouldn't start. Just did the old thud, and the lights went dark. Repeated this a couple times. So I had AAA come out to jump the SCrew, no luck. It wasn't a dead battery. We then shorted the solenoid.......whirrr.... Put the key in the start position and it started right up. Hasn't happened since then. What do you think, write it off as a fluke? demand the solenoid get replaced? See sig for truck specs..

Hopefully, it was just a one-time problem. As long as it is working, I doubt Ford will replace anything- despite your demands. If it happens again, don't call AAA. Call Ford's roadside assistance and have them tow the truck to a dealership for repair.

The same thing happened to me several times. It turned out that it was temperature related. If I left the vehicle off for less than 45 minutes, it wouldn't start. Mine got progressively worse before I took it to the dealer. They didn't believe me until they couldn't get it started in the service lane. Replacing the solenoid fixed the problem.

Well, it happened again. I went to start it and nothing. I bypassed the solenoid and it started right up. I turned it off and it started right up. Figuring it was just due to the temps (little cool last night) I started my commute to work. After about 10 minutes of running I lost all power. Let me tell you, loosing power steering and power brakes at 70 MPH in Los Angeles commuter traffic is not a fun thing. After I got the SCrew to the shoulder, it started right up. I had it towed anyways. 3 hours later the solenoid and starter connectors were replaced (under warranty of course). Lessons learned, (1) Ford Roadside Assitance seems really slow compared to AAA, (2) ALWAYS think ahead for the what if scenarios. At 70 in dense traffic (L.A. drivers are not very forgiving) is not the time to learn what your SCrew handles like without power.
