OK,OK, I was wrong.
Skyjet, I really like your idea and am going to go to Lowes tonight to get the parts. Such a great idea! One question. Could I screw one of the nuts all the way on the bolt and then insert it through the cage and put the final 5 bolts on the end? The way you have it looks like it would only take someone removing the top 2 nuts to dismantle the protector. If you put the bolt in the opposite way with only the head of the bolt and 1 nut on top they couldn't unscrew it. I may be looking at the pictures wrong but just wondered if that would work. Any comment would be appreciated before I do it.

willderness,
Someone could remove the two nuts, but they will not be able to push the bolt out (or remove the bed extender) because the head of the bolt hits the bed of the truck. You might want to use a locking nut with a nylon insert instead of the two nuts. I think it would look better. I used the nuts because I already had them.
Buy a new drill bit because the stainless steel is hard.
I have just done some updating to my web sight tonight if anyone is interested.

Locks for extender
willderness,
If you want to put locks on instead of bolts like Skyjet did, follow this thread:

I went ahead and did the Carriage bolt install last night. Pretty easy. It is hard getting a straight 3/8 hole through the stainless. It looks really good though and works great. Thanks for the lock suggestion but I keep my tailgate locked all the time anyway so I didn't need another lock to mess with.
Thanks for the help all,

I have both a Supercrew and a Sport Trac. The Supercrew's mine, and the Sport Trac is the significant other's. I think the bed extenders are pretty annoying, but I have used them in both vehicles numerous times, so they are useful. I have a cap on the screw and a tonneau on the Sport Trac. As for the Screw being on the supercab frame, that is false. It is a modified Expedition frame. As a matter of fact, everything in the thing is from the Expedition. It is NOT an F150 as the badge states. It is basically an Expedition Sport Trac, for lack of better words. I love my Supercrew, and would not be happy with the Sport Trac.
