Thumbs down Search function

What is the deal with the "search" function. It's been down for weeks! Not having it significantly reduces the usefulness of the forums!

Actually it has been down for months. The admin says he is having some database issues. So who knows how long before it's back up...

Thumbs down this thread has no value added to the website.

until you know about database management, Apache and linux config files, stop wasting space with your complaining.

umm, i know about those things. can I ask for an update?

is this forum based on mysql or postgre?

I am very curious about when the search function might return -- any status update? anything members might do to help?

thanks,
Wes

Let me shed some light on this.

This is a free website. Steve pays for this out of his own pocket. The advertising doesn't really add any significant resources to the running of this website. With this in mind, there is only so much server that Steve can buy and financially maintain.

Now look at the top of the forums home page. Do you see how many memebers, how many threads and how many posts there are?

That's a heck of a lot of data on the server. Every useless question, post count padding statement and bitching post (like this) puts that much more strain on an already congested server.

Now if you want further explanation, go to "Site Announcements" and see what the webmaster has to say.

thanks J-150, I'm not trying to bitch. I would genuinely like to know how to help. Steve does an awesome job maintaining this amazing site that has been more help to me and to hundreds of others than any other truck resource. The search feature is an addition that made the site that much more useful and helpful. Hopefully we can all find a way to chip in and help Steve keep things going strong.

regards,
Wes

J 150 and Corpsie.... You are both off base... my initial comment was not a "bitch", but was a question.

"thumbs down" does not indicate a question, it indicated negative feeling.
