is there a place i can look to find out if my truck has ever been in an accident or has had repairs? i'm just getting a feeling my new truck had been repaired in some fashion. just little things i've noticed like the driver's side turn signal isn't lined up like the passenger side, paint doesn't seem as smooth on drivers side, and it looks like some of the bolts in the drivers side wheel well have been messed with. plus it was a left over 01' i just bought new. the salesman said it hadn't but i would like to check.

 

If you bought it new off the lot, then most likely your best bet is to take it to a good body shop and have them look at it for you.

If it was damaged before you bought it (say they backed into it moving vehicles around on the lot), it could have been fixed at the dealer's body shop. Your normal venues (Carfax, etc.) would probably never know it.

You can always run it trough Carfax. It will cost you 9.99 but it might be worth it for a peace of mind. I joined for 2 months to check mine. I had the same feeling you have. Ran the check and it was all good. Carfax's report lets you know the entire history of a car or truck. You can e-mail me if you want and I will run it for you. I can do it in a few seconds on line. The dealer is required by law to let you know if it was ever wrecked.

Carfax WILL NOT tell you if it's been in a wreck. Only if it has a 'salvage title'. For example, I had a Chevy Blazer (I was dumb and stupid back in college) and I wrecked it (I totalled a Impalla). My truck had minimal damage however, the entire front end had to be replaced (about $4000 worth) and, I later ran a CARFAX report. It was not there.

I have used carfax to my advantage though. It kept me from buying a 1998 F150 because it had a salvage title on it... later, I found out that it had had EXTENSIVE work performed on it and thus, the insurance company said salvage however, I guess someone rescued it from the rust of a junkyard and re-did it.

Similar story on my first car. It was totalled by a hailstorm. I bought it back from the insurance company. Ran the carfax on it. It showed salvage title as well.

Don't get me wrong... carfax is an EXCELLENT resource for those of us that are **** about our vehicles however, it's not always 110% accurate.

 

I appreciate the offer to run it but I was able to run it and it showed it was clean. I also called another dealer and talked to the service dept. he gave me some items to look for if it was wrecked and none of the signs were there so I feel better.

I've only got 600mi. on it and am taking it on my first trip from Tx. to OKC pulling an empty trailer to pick up a load of things. guess i'll see how the mileage does towing...
