Question Screw aftermarket speaker help..please

Hi all.
I'm going nuts!!!! I have a 2002 Screw. I want to replace the stock speakers. However.....everything I like at Crutchfield.... the computer says won't fit my rear doors (5X7 speakers or 6X8) I wanted some good speakers around $175 per set (2 sets obviously)

What have other Screw guys done w/ their aftermarket speakers?

Also ..... What's a good 4 channel amp to power the new speakers assuming I'm keeping the stock head unit and don't want window thumping bass. I just want the 4 speakers to crank loud.....So I can hear music w/ my windows down and the moonroof open while at crusing speeds.

Tim

Cool

Check Out my sig. The Bostons with the Memphis 50x4 Jams Pretty good! a noticable difference from being powered by the Pioneer head unit.

with the acoustics of the SCrew cab, you really don't need to replace the rear speakers. just get some quality separates up front. I went with the boston acoustic RC820's (they fit the stock space up front) and an MTX thunderform 6304 amp driving the separates and bridged for the 10" sub under the rear seat, and a panasonic head unit -- the rear speakers run straight off the head unit just for a little fill, but the separates are what really set the sound. pics are at the link in my profile... it sounds awesome!

Talking I love my tunes

here is what I did ......it is LOUD & Clear

Head Unit : Alpine CDA 7977 Very nice tiltable face/ cool graphics/ tons of controls including a separate volume control for the sub-woofer

Speakers : 4 Kicker 5x7 2002 hi power K57's -- Very clear no mater hold loud you play them ....and the highs are very crisp put in a Blues Travelers CD and thouhgt Big John was in the truck

Amplifier: Alpine 5 channel mrvf357 V-12 mounted in passenger side rear pannel --- the 5 channel gives me full control nice install in the lil pocket behind passenger seat and the jack still fit.

Subwoofer: Kicker 8" VR Sub2 dvc in a custom built box under driver side passenger seat This high power 2 way sub is incredible for an 8" it will shake the seats or just supply a nice clear bass line...exactly what I wanted. the enclosure is a sealed custom box with the Sub downfiring and carpeted to match. I can still access the storage compartment behind the seat it is removeable if I needed to fold the seat down

I bought Infinity Reference 5X7s and installed them all the way around. They sound good, took a little while to get the tweeters aimed correctly, but my sound stage seems perfect now. Great sounding little speaker, especially at $75/pair!

I replaced my stock speakers with Polk DX7's (5x7) speakers all around. The installation was fairly simple after watching the "pro's" doing the install. They used the same factory holes, but had to cut and install different connectors. Overall it was an easy task, but it was free to have them to do it.

As for the deck, I have a Alpine 7863 60W deck with a 8" Bazooka with built in amp. The Bazooka fits perfectly under the rear seat and doesn't need anything to secure it. The rear seat holds it firmly in place. One connector and it can be removed or installed in seconds. Granted it is not the greatest setup, but it was reasonably priced and fills the low end nicely since I normally don't play my music loud enough for the whole block to hear. It is definitely loud enough while cruising down the highway about 75 to 80 with all windows and moonroof open.

I put a set of Boston RX 87 coax 5x7's in the front doors and saw a MAJOR improvement. Truck now has a full system in it with a sub, amp, etc. But I'll say that just the Bostons up front running off the stock headunit was really impressive. I wouldn't bother with the rear doors unless you plan to do a full system, when I replaced the rear door speakers with the pioneer 6x8s all the guys seem to like, I saw almost no improvement--its not that the pioneers aren't good speakers, its just that you can't hear the difference up front, as the tweeters fire into the side of the seat in back. It was the fronts that were critical. Also, you have to make spacers for the rear speakers as the location is VERY shallow. I paid 159.00 for the Bostons at GoodGuys, they were worth every penny and dropped right in, no hassel at all. Good Luck
