Question Heated Mirrors, possible???

I'm looking into changing my stock mirrors to heated mirrors, like on the Expedition. Anybody done this mod yet? Any pros or cons regards to doing this? I haven't seen the controls in the Expedition yet, so not sure if it is a dial or push button.

Any help would be grateful.

Thanks.

Hey Gino,

What's your plan to switch the current to operate the heaters in the mirrors? On the expy, the heaters are switched when the rear glass defroster circuit is closed. I think you are going to have to add a switch somewhere and fuse protect that circuit. My guess is that the wires are not in the door behind the mirror glass so extra wires may need to be ran through the door bellows and up into the mirror cavities.

Sounds pretty simple but if it's done right it might get into a fair amount of work. I wouldn't mind doing this too and have thought about it for over a month but just haven't had time to look deeper.

Later,
DaveMan

Daveman,
I'm going to look into it, I think there is a seperate switch for the heated mirrors located under the headlamp switch, it may just need a relay with an inline fuse, i'll keep up with the thread and let you guys know how I make out.
I think its so stupid that it's not offered as an option, i'm sure it will become one as soon as I finish rigging mine

Can't get them on the Superduty trucks either. Hello Ford? Some of us live where it's cold and would pay extra for heated mirrors.

Installed heated Mirrors

OK, If your truck is a 00' or newer, you have the signal part (connector) already in the door. But our trucks are not yet set up for the heated part. And if you purchase them through muth, they wont warrenty the 'heated' portion cause' our trucks dont have them as an option. Yes you do have to install a seperate switch and run the wires through the boots. If I recall, a heated mirror switch from a 93' explorer will work just great, has a built in relay, timer and everthing else you need. Was a fairly simple install, hardest part was running and extra set of wires through the mirror sail.
