Advice for a cap for my Screw

I have a Black 2001 Screw, and I am looking for a cap.
Currently my choice is the ARE CH series. Anyone have some advice on other brands and maybe some pictures?

Don't froget to check out Stockland.... www.stockland.com

I have their "Sebring" model, and love it...

Paint match is perfect, single handle, good lock, headliner, sliding window....all for about $1300...

Thanks, I had not ever heard of them.
I have seen the Century on the web site but don't really want two handle on the rear tail gate, I prefer just one.

Jeraco Caps

I have a Cab Hig Deluxe Series Jeraco top on my truck.

http://www.jeraco.com/.

I don't have a picture of it on my truck but here is one on the site where I bought it from on an extended cab 150

http://www.trucknamerica.com/jeraco_caps.htm

The top was about $800 with another $150 for the roof rack, including installation. It came from the factory painted to match the truck. The top is very good quality. The side windows slide open and have screens (good for camping and when the dogs ride back there) and the window in the front is a slider for easy access from the passenger compartment (if your truck has a sliding rear window).

I have a Leer 100R and I went for it because it was considerably cheaper than the ARE. I didn't need all the bells and whistles, so I got this one instead. It completely covers the bed rails, which makes it look much cleaner.

sread,

I don't think you will find a better looking, fitting or constructed cap than the ARE 'Z' Series. It's worth a few extra dollars.

See for yourself:

I have the ARE Z series cap also and I love it. Just like Wickmans above, but mine is white. I have the factory liner, sliding window, 12V light inside (along with the BedRug). I like how it covers the rails also. Does not leak either.

Question for Wickman

Your truck looks real nice. Do you have to take the rail caps off for your cap to cover it? After seeing your photo I looked at my cap last night and it flairs out at the bottom looking like it could cover the rails if the covers were off.

This is how they mounted it at the dealer I purchased it from. They didn't mention anything about putting it on without the rail covers. I might want to try this.

Answer for 4.6Supercrew

The ARE 'Z' Series is specifically engineered to be installed over top of the bedrails but covering them completely. I much prefer this appearance to the cap sitting on the rails with the rails still visible.

I wouldn't attempt to mount it on your bed without the bedrails for fear it might damage your truck if it wasn't meant to be installed that way.

You could probably fire off an e-mail to the folks at Jeraco and ask them.

Thumbs up

I have the A.R.E. MX on my supercrew, It was the only cover manufacturer that made one that covered the rails & was taller than the truck. You can get it with one or two handles, I got only one and had the inside lined to match the bedrug. The cover, tax & installed about $1250.00

I have the black ARE Z series. I get lots of compliments on it, but here are some things I have noticed.

The hardware inside (lock latches, screws, etc) on the hatch seem to loosen, and also corodes. Inside stays pretty dry (small leak ocasionally, dont know where but might be because of the Ford Bedliner over the front rail. Every 6 months or so I have to tighten up the latches so the glass closes properly.

Also, look at the Snugtop again. There seems to be a rather large gap between the cab andcap on my ARE, that I dont see in the pics posted of the Snugtop. My ARE seems to have a designed in large gap. I couldnt find a snugtop to compare when I bought the ARE.

ARE is good at customer service. The first cap on my SC had a defect in the curve of the fiberglass mold, that made the side window not fit properly. After a question to my installer, he called ARE and they agreed to replace the cap Free of Charge with one out of a different mold, with no bitching from me. They even sent me some swag to keep me happy.

On the whole, Quality 8/10, Customer service 9.5/10, lines 9/10 (10/10 would be closer cab to cap fit, that I think Snugtop might give). Recommend: Yes, with minor reservations...
