Question Bed Cover Survey

Want to hear what kind of bedcovers you all have for your SCrews? Highlight the ease of use, good points, bad points, and if they keep the beds dry in rain or through the carwash.

Had the Ford KR Tonneau Cover installed last week. It looked really sharp and complimented the truck nicely, but it leaks into the bed above the tailgate. When they installed mine, there were two 3/4" gaps on either end above the tailgate that lets rain and snow into the bed. Dealer said that it was designed that way and they didn't modify it (don't know if I believe them), but I'm retunring it anyway. We wanted the cover to protect items from getting wet in the bed.

Sportmaster Tonneau

Cheap Price $100
15-20 Minute Install
No holes required to install. Black Alumimun frame is held
to bed by special clamps provided. Need only a Phillips head screwdriver to install.
I have a gap over the tailgate as well so the tailgate opens
without unsnapping the Tonneau. We have had snow and rain and so far the bed is dry.

I have a Snuglid and, overall, it's great. I've been through a few rainstorms and multiple car washings and have never had any issues with the bed being wet. I do have a BedRug now, so I might not notice a small leak. The cover looks great and has improved the ride a lot by reducing the wind resistance. I chose this one rather than the some of the others because it does not interfere with the rear view very much.

The only downside I have with it so far is that there are two locks. It takes an extra couple of seconds to lock both as compared to a cover with a single lock, but it's worth the extra few seconds.

Alpha7,
did you notice an increase in gas mileage with your new tonneau? If you don't mind me asking, how much did it set you back???

I have a Lo Rider.
I like it due to it being flat (unlike the ARE) and has one lock on top.
It leaks at the front area.
I don't like how wide it fits on the overall bed.
At the front there is about a 1/1/2" gap between the bed and the cap, which tapers smaller towards the rear. Looks bad when you look in your sideview mirrors. Due to this opening, I think it has to be wind drag.

I will do what alpha told you. Go with the SnugLid and the BedRug. That is an excellent combo. I have it on my Tundra and I love it. The hard cover color matchs that truck and the Bed Rug looks great. you really wnat to take a nap in there

Advance Cover

I put the Advance Cover on my 2001 SCrew.
*Cost around $500.
*Installed myself.
*Low and flat like the soft covers.
*Hard and secure/locking.
*Easy to open/close by myself.
*Can operate it with 1/2 the cover open to carry tall items.
*Can take it off by myself (in less than 2 minutes) if I get somewhere and need to use the bed open. Cover folds and fits in the bed with whatever I'm carrying.
*Haven't experienced any trouble with leaking. Live in Houston. We had about 72" of rain last year. I go through the premium drive thorugh/hand car wash once a week and don't have any problems with leaking.
*Link to photos.

I have a ARE LSII.......it was $650.00. I chose the ARE because of their locking system...the best I've seen yet. Its been thru several car washes with no problems.

The ARE seems like the best overall lid. I have had mine on for 5 months with no problems. The contours look great and compliment the Screw. Also the contours add approximately 5 extra inches of clearance, and this can make a big difference. The lock mechanism and double hinge setup are the best Ive seen. The lid slightly wraps the sides of the bed, no gaps, no leaks.

Hope this helps

I have the Snug Top on my truck. Gas mileage seems to have gone up a few miles per gallon, but it could be all in my head.

No leaks into the bed, and I've been in a few real heavy downpours. It makes the truck look better as well, IMHO.

Downsides? Hard to open since you have to grab the edges which are sharp.

soft tonneau

Well, I have an extang snapless soft tonneau, it keeps the bed dry, was about 210, is no problem putting back on even in cold weather, i like it a lot.

I've been told to not let ice form in the grooves for the cover though when it's off, apprently it's hard to get the cover back on if you do.

I didn't really notice a mileage increase, but I installed it around the same time that the fule distributors start adding cold-start things to unleaded, which can kill a mpg or so, so maybe I evened out.

I'm getting 15.5 or so mpg on a 01 4.6L 4x4, 3.31 gears (?)

rj998:

Did you install the X-tang yourself and if you did was it difficult? NO drilling correct? Where did you purchase it for $210.

Thanks
