Question Underbody Lighting

Hey All!

I am looking through my 2002 Ford Truck Accessories Book from FORD and they are listing a lighting kit as follow:

UNDERBODY SECURITY/VALET LIGHTING This security lighting system provides light to the underside of the vehicle and the surrounding area. The kit uses two powerful lights mounted under the vehicle that automatically light when the doors are manually unlocked, or remotely unlocked with a keyless entry key fob.
Available for F-150, F-150 Supercrew, F-SuperDuty and Ranger.

It lists in the book for $150, but the dealer has been doing me VERY WELL on any purchases from them.

My question is, does anyone have it?? How well does it work and/or how good does it look??

MOST IMPORTANT, Is the electrical hook-up as easy and plugging into a connector or is there some complex wiring. If anyone does have this system, where would I look on my truck for the connector to see if it is there????

It sounds like a nice mod, but like most people here, thought I would ask first!!!

THANKS ALL!!!!!

Joey "O"

I did the same thing to my truck. Except it cost me $30 @ Pep Boys. They have a backup lite kit for boat trailers that works perfect. Good heavey duty lights with a drain hole(since they are desighned to get wet). Looks real good at night. I wired them in to the door on passenger side. Its nice to hit the remote from a distance and see it lite up.

This sounds interesting-where did you mount the lights?

I'm interested too...did you use a relay?

did you use a relay with the passenger door as the trigger? or did you hook directly into the door for the hot lead fo the lights??

sounds kool...may run up to PepBoys today and check it out... what p/n did you use??

The kit I bought came with brackets and wireing. The light mounted to the frame in the middle of the two doors. I ran the wire up through a hole in the body (there was a rubber boot over it) tied into the hot wire in the kick panel on passenger side. Not shure about a P/N Its been over a year since I did this.

This sounds like a really cool mod. I'll have to look around to see what kinds of lights I can get my hands on to do this. My only concerns have to deal with water, sand, rocks, and mud getting kicked up and damaging a light.
