Where is computer located?

I have a 2001 screw and ordered a chip. Just curious where the computer is located and how difficult is it to get out?

Right underneath the glove compartment on the kick panel.
There should be one 10 mm bolt on the engine compartment
side that holds on the wiring harness to that end of it. Remove
this bolt, lay down on the passengers side floor, reach up and
unclip the plastic hold down and gentle remove the box.
Once your chip is installed and you reinsert the computer, you
will have to slide this same plastic hold down, down to clear
the back of the chip. You may want to place some 200 mile
an hour ( duct tape) over your chip to keep it from vibrating
loose, depending on how hard you drive your truck.
If this does not help, go into the superchips website. They have
a section there on where to find your computer and etc.
Good luck

Marc

BBRANJEN - I have been following your posts about the chip because I am interested in one too. Make sure you update us on the install and results once you have it in. Good luck!!!

No problem, I will shoot you straight. Mike has been real informative. I didn't know that when you hit a passing gear that the computer cuts the rpms by 400rpm when its first engaged, this explains why it falls on its face upon the initial down shift.. He also said that on my svb2 the shift points at WOT will fall between 5200-5400 rpm. I think if it falls at 5400 it will do it alot of good. As far as the install, I've located the computer, it should be a breeze. The scraping will be the only time consuming part on the factory chip. I tend to be over cautious when doing this. In a nut shell if it does what Mike says it will do, it will be worth it. This is my first ford (traded my 2000 Chev ext cab for it) and have been far from happy with the performance. Chevys have the power and gasmilage advantage. Not to mention a few other little options I miss. Oh and he said it should knock off anywhere between 3 tenths to 1.2 second. I'm not holding my breath for the 1.2 seconds, but if it knocks off 5 tenths----at least it should hang with the chevys.

This too is my first Ford. Very hard decision. Still not a "Ford" man. Don't get me wrong, I love my truck and I think it is still the best looking 4 door pickup out there (the SCrew), but I must say I have had more problems (even though maybe nitpicky stuff) with this truck in 34,000 miles than I ever had with my previous '95 S-10 that I put 175,000 miles on. I love the concept of this truck, I just think Ford needs to work a little more on their #1 Job (Quality).

Question - what are you referring to when you mentioned "scraping" the chip??

Scraping is cleaning the contacts that are sprayed with a clear lacker. You must clean this off before the chip can make contact with the board.
I had one on my 99 PSD and it did wonders. I too am interested in its performance. Please keep us posted.

I have the chip and love it. The 5 minutes with the headlights on to drain the battery (with the battery disconnected) is importiant, and I would actually do it a bit longer like what the heck 10 minutes.

Also if the contacts are not clean enough your truck just won't start... Don't worry just clean them somemore.

You will love the chip just for the shifting, the extra power is almost a extra bonus!

Capp hit it on the head. Thanks for that extra input on not cleaning the contacts enough(not starting), I was wondering if it would screw anything up. Lightning Screw, Man I like the way yours is dressed out. Looks Great! My feelings kinda go along with you on this ford thing. I havent' had any nitpicky problems. Just the overall performance and gas milage . If I could put a Chevy motor in this, it would be f...ing great. Guys I am very nitpicky when it comes to performance. I will let you know what I feel about this chip. Just for the record, I bought the Air force One air induction kit, its not worth the extra money. Didn't feel a difference what so ever. Go for the cheaper ones. How much science can you put into a bent piece of pipe? The sells pitch on that was BS.
