starting and accelator problem
Hi. When its cold out, sometimes when I step on the throttle it doesn't go down. It does go down when I stomp on it hard though, then its fine after that. It has happened to me twice this year and a few times last winter. This year both times were just after starting it in the morning. Last winter it happened in the morning and when I tried to go at a stop sign. Also last winter I had a few problems starting the truck in the morning. Has this happened to anyone else? Can you tell me whats wrong? Its a 2001 4.6. I've been to ford but they couldn't find anything wrong. Thanks!
I have a 97 explorer that also did that! I took it in several times to be checked out, but nothing of corse!! Last year Ford did a recall on the throttle boby, after replacing it, it has not happened since. I dont know it the accelerator and the t-body connect, but that seemed to correct my problem !! Just a suggestion!!
Hey there h1vc,
Sorry to hear your having trouble but glad to see your post. Got my '01 Lariat SC in September and JUST experienced the problem you described yesterday for the first time. Got in and started the truck after it had been sitting outside 15 hours with the temp around 10 degrees. Went to go but the accelerator said otherwise. I thought what the h@#$... the add-on floor mat must have slipped up and got stuck. This was not the case. I had to jam the peddle to break it loose. Not a huge issue I guess, just don't want the damn thing to stick the other way when I'm trying to stop. I'll keep checking this post to see if you hear anything more. BTW, have any trouble with a noisy brush actuator (blower motor)? My rattles like a son-of-a-gun when it's on low.

I had this happen to me twice last winter. I took it to the dealer, and of course they said they couldn't find a problem. I think they may have lubricated a cable or something as preventative maintenance. It hasn't happened again yet this winter. Although it really hasn't been very cold here yet.
I wish you luck.

Be carefull.....those gas pedals you are stompin' are made of plastic and will break. See Neal's Post below.

Thanks for the replies. No problems with the blower motor yet. They replaced some cable last year but guess that didn't do any good. Does any of your trucks shake at times, the whole truck, mine sometimes shakes like when a manual cars wants to stall. Its happened a few times, I think all in the winter, it does that at stop signs at lights. Also I noticed after my throttle problem that both pedals move left and right alot, when i get out the truck and shake the pedals left and right with my hand, they move quite a bit, its also like that when i'm driving if i move them with my foot. Dealer said its normal but don't recall them moving that much before the throttle porblem. Has this happened to anyone else? Thanks.
