Cab top - why isn't it smooth?!

I'm sure this has been discussed before, but I couldn't find anything on it.

Why is the top of the cab on screws (and presumably all f150s) not smooth? They have the shallow dips, which are a pain in the *** for washing the car...

My understanding is that the grooves provide strength since the cab roof is so much longer than a SC. That's all I can tell you.

I am sure they are to increase regidity due to the increased size.

roof dents

Obviously for strength and to keep the roof from vibrating like a drum but why can't they make them bump upward instead of dent downward, which collects dirt and water, and possibly rust?

If they made them high enough, they could act like stabilizer fins and maybe help the wandering problem! It would certainly be a new styling statement!

Also as those with moonroofs have mentioned, to funnel as much water as possible into the truck when first opening the moonroof.

HAHA!

The strength this I belive is correct, I can't think of any other reason.

They certainly suck. Do regular f150s have them? What about suvs like expeditions? (If not, then I wouldn't understand the strength theory...)

The other F150's just have the outer most groove on each side which are rain gutters. I think the expeditions have all the grooves for additional strength.

Hey Raoul,

Do we have to buy those screens to keep leaves out of our rain gutters? I hope not, that'd look real homely, "A".
