Who here has put a chip in their screw?
Who here has put a chip in their screw?
Trying to find ways to get this slug to run better. Anyone installed a chip yet? What kind and what performance advantage did you experience? Good, medium, mild, None? I tried a chip in a 89 chevy p/u along time ago and even got the strip version (ads superchips) Outside of holding out on the shift points a little longer, it did nothing. I like the hypertech set up, but they haven't come out with on for my 01 screw. Come on guys, lets here some true testimonials. Don't say it ran good just because you dumped a wad of money on it.(technically that doesn't make it ran faster)
BBRANJEN:
I would have to say, out of all the mods I have done to date, the Superchip was the most satisfying. The tradeoff of 92+ octane gas to the performance is well worth it.
The real reason for me initially was that I could not stand the sloppy feel of the transmission....problem solved. Talk to Mike in the Chips forum, he is a straight shooter.

I too put a superchips flip chip from Mike in my SCrew. I personally can really tell the difference, and I'm well satisified with my purchase. The only problem is that now I can't find some similarly equiped SCrews to race with to prove the difference the mods make. Oh well, guess I have to settle for running chebbies.

Just the shifting improvment alone is worth the price of the chip. The powre increase with the 5.4 is very noticable from stock. It's still a heavy truck but when jumping on the freeway and getting up to speed it really makes a diffrence. I highly recomend it, you won't regret it.
Ditto....
with 93 octane here in Woodbridge VA at under a buck a gallon... easily worth the change...
I too wanted tighter shift and got what I wanted. The 5.4 as said before was noticable when gettin on the freeway or at a lite...
no regrets.

Let me know how you do against the chebbies. They run good.
Thanks everybody for your input. I will wait till after x-mas to purchase one

Superchip is good
You *will* notice the improvements made by the Superchip, especially the greatly improved shifting.
As others said, talk to Mike in the computer chips section. He won't steer you wrong.

And can definitely feel the difference. It's quicker off the line and pulls harder through all the gears. As mentioned, shifts are firmer. Definitely worth the price of admission, IMO.
Great testimonials guys - now, one question. Will a chip void your warranty?? I bought an extended warranty when I got the truck (because in the first year I put 32K miles on it) and I sure don't want to throw away $800 to go a little faster.

Ok, next question - Does the truck computer have a memory?? Does it "record" that programming has been changed and can the dealer pull that info up on a diagnostics check?? Just figuring it all out before I do this. Thanks!!
Add my voice to the chorus regarding the improvements in shifting and freeway acceleration. To my knowledge, if you disconnect the battery and drain the electrical system by turning on the lights you will completely "erase" the existing program (stock or "chip-driven"). When you reconnect the battery and start the vehicle, some time is needed (miles) before the computer "relearns" your new configuration.
I don't take my chip out before normal servicing at the dealer. The only time I would do so is if I had a problem that required a computer diagnostic check or if the scheduled service required the tech to hook up to the computer.
Hope this helps!

If you remove the chip and drain the power (disconnect the battery and leave the lights on for 5+ minutes) then they cannot tell you have a chip and the diagnostics will not see it. This is what I have been told, if you have more questions about this then jump on over to the Chips forum.
