What to do What to do - Decisions Decisions.
Today at Lunch I got a little suprise from the wizards at FoMoCo.
A letter fessing up to the fact that they had indeed ripped me off of a heavy duty radiator.
Now mind you - I have read all of this on the boards here, but have never actually griped to ford about it - since mine has never overheated - and I don't tow anything with it anyway.
So now the decision.
They sent me a check for $100.00 and said I could either cash it - or
b. They would give me a $500.00 certificate towards a New Ford. or
c. They would actually put the correct radiator in the thing - but it could take several months
Now I'm tempted to cash the check. I would imagine due to the substandard quality that is evident throughout in this truck - I won't be buying any more Fords. Therefore the $500.00 certificate is useless unless I could sell it
But on the other hand - if the current radiator is anything like the rest of the Truck - It's probably about 75 percent worn out and I should probably get a new one for free while I have a chance.
Sheeeeit - maybe they will discover they put the wrong engine in it next month and I'll get another check.
Decisions Decisions - Anyone have any comments

The substandard radiator is actually sufficient. You will notice that this year they didn't make the same mistake. They corrected their paperwork so the heavy duty one is no longer available, even on the towing package. It was just an oversight on their part in changing it in their specs, so people started complaining about it, making them do something about it. Had I waited long enough before I complained about mine, I would have taken the $100 check rather than replace the other radiator. I live in Florida and even in the hottest part of the year it didn't move over the normal temperature, leading me to believe that it was indeed sufficient. But seeing as I paid ~$30,000 for my truck, I wanted everything I paid for. If I were you, I would just take the $100, because knowing the dealers, they are bound to screw something up worse by replacing the old radiator, thereby causing more problems. Save yourself the hassle and cash the check. It will be more worthwhile in the long run.
If you don't tow a lot or don't tow anything that big, just cash the check. If you do take it to the dealer, there is the wait, the chance that they might break something else, and then you may not have needed to go though all that in the first place. I have the standard radiator and have gone offroading in the desert in 4x4 hot day, AC running the entire time plus I was drving in soft sand at a faily high speed. The temp needle didn't even move!

Sorry to hear all that. I have not had ANY of the problems with either of the Supercrews I have owned that have been listed on this site. But, that does not surprise me. I feel like thats primarly because this is where you go to b--ch about whats wrong with trucks and with hundreds of thousands being built I would expect a few bad apples. I would also expect to hear from 30 of those apples on this site. But that does not mean that I should expect any of those problems myself just because I own the same truck. EVERY VEHICLE MANUFACUTURE is going to send out some duds.
However, the radiator issue is not something I think we can be calling Substandard. I believe Dufunnel said it right when he called it a "Mis-Print". From what I have read the trucks run & pull fine, pulling, not pulling, heat, cold, uphill, downhill.
I realize that their maybe other issues wrong with your truck, as there are some of the hundreds of thousands coming off the line. (Thank God no one wants a $100 check everytime I screw up) But, I think Ford has handled it well, as opposed to saying:"Sorry, Misprint" and I think that the radiator issue has nothing to do with the quality of the truck.
Lightguy would take the check and continue driving these fine machines.

Check your trade in value
I'd trade this puppy in a new york minute (and use the $500.00 certificate), except for the trade in value is about $12K less than I paid for it. Now that's holding your value.
2001 Supercrew Lariat - Trade in value -- 19800.00.
Whoooo hooooo. Looks like I'm going to be driving this puppy for a while. (Hope it doesn't overheat and explode in place):o

Hey rexwl,
Get the dealer to get your radiator and tell them you'll put it in yourself if they'll let you. I'll send you a check for $100 for the radiator, or whatever you think is fair, and I'll pay for the shipping from your place to mine.
I'll put the thing in mine myself as my truck was built in April but since I purchased it in Sept, I'm not eligible for the offer.
Let me know by sending me a personal email from this site or reposting to this thread. Email can be accessed by clicking on the profile button at the bottom of my post.
Thanks,

Ok. I Checked my trade in value.
Traded my 2001 Supercrew Lariat w/ 32,000 miles last week for $24,500. Paid $31,500 in April of 2000 and traded for $24,500 in December of 2001. Took the new 2002 KR off the lot for $33,000 w/ cheap *** financing and a full tank of gas.
What a deal. I ended up borrowing less than I did the first time and lowered my payment by $25 monthly and drove home in a new: Well built, great smellin, good lookin, well painted, heavy hauling Ford Supercrew King Ranch! Radiator has yet to puke on me and I dont recall seeing any of these trucks on the side of the road yet. I'll keep lookin.
I only wish
I only wish someone would step up and give me 24,500 for my lariat. Don't think so. Since on Edmunds the average trade in is 19,500.
Full retail is about 23,000. With the deduct for the 36k miles you had on your old one - it was worth about 18,500. Your dealer was a complete dumb a*$%. (Or you got it up the poop on the new one - quite possible).
These guys generally don't lose money when they sell a vehicle.

However, this deal was made in October and the dealer even mentioned on the day that I walked in to pick up the new 02KR, that there would be no way he could make that same deal then but that he would live up to what he told me. Im sure Edmunds would have been better in October then it is now, but Edmunds or Kelly did not have anything on the S-Crew in October.
At the same time, several Dealers would not give me that deal and he did, so he made something on the deal instead of nothing. That might explain why they sell more Ford trucks than anyone in Southwest MO. He's getting the Kickback on a lot of trucks that other Dealers cant. They have a reputation for selling alot of trucks and offering good deals. (I think they go hand and hand) This makes them a "Great" Dealer and one that will keep my business. Since I dont work for Ford, and im a truck consumer, a great and smart Dealer is one that will do anything to get and keep my business.
