New Air Dam
New Air Dam
I just received my new air dam. It is a Truck Master 4 x 2 design. For those who replaced their air dam, did you have the entire air dam painted, or just the outside? Also, the instructions directs me to connect fog lamps to the low beam wire or driving lamps to the high beam. This might be a stupid question, but for those who installed the Truck Master design air dam, what type of lamps are they. I would think they are fog lamps. Also, did you put your truck on a hoist to make the install easier?
TMD 4x2
HI, Guy
I have the 4x2 TMD and I love it.
It draws attention like you can't believe.
I had mine painted, outside only.
I think if I had it to do over again, I'd have the bottom 1/3
shot with rock guard paint first. That way the touch up won't show as bad, but mine shows because it's orange pearl paint.
As for the trigger for the "Driving lamps" I tied into the parking lamp so that way I can have parking lamps on and then turn on the driving lamps, without the haed lights.
Both of my lenses were cracked within 6 months, and you cannot buy just the glass lens. I called the MFG'r in Indiana and inquired to the MFG'r of the lamps. They are made by Blazer Industries, i think in FL. But when they get replaced, i will replace them with KC's, they make a 3x6 I think. I measured them once, can't remember.
go to my photo's for more pics--I had the nose of my truck, painted as their display truck is done.

XTRUKY,
Thanks for the reply. I never heard of rock guard paint, but sounds like I will have it put on mine. Also, the box the lamps came in says "Made in China." Might not be the same lamps that you got with your air dam. BTW, awesome looking truck!

Made n China
I'm sure mine were made in China also
because they had that WEIRD cardboard
the kind that has no strength to it.
Check into a product made by 3M, it's a clear plastic used on HIGH dollar imports as a clear bra. Try pitting some of that over the glass lens.
The rock guard comes in a spray can and gives a bumpy feel when dried. A lot of vehicles have it on their lower rocker panels.

Mine is painted outside with a black coating on the inside. As for the lights, I replaced thr "cheap" factory lights with a set of Pilot Titanium lights. I had to modify the brackets and all to make them fit, but it was well worth the effort. My headlights are the same color as the driving lights, and the actual light housing is a polished silver.
When the truck gets out of the shop tomorrow, I will take a photo of it!

Mr. Adamski
I'd be interested in knowing more about the driving lites you used!
Can you tell me the model or part number, where you purchased them, cost, bulb wattage, etc.
How bout a close up of them in the air dam?
What had to be modified?

X-- I will get the information from them tomorrow. Virtually every light I looked at and found had the mounting brackets on the top, or the bottom. The spaces supplied for the actual lights will not accept these types of lights. The lights I got, I had to take a dremmel tool and grind the brackets off the top to make the light smooth all the way around. I then went to Home Depot and got a couple of special gate latches and cut the holder out to make a hole big enough for a new stud. I played with JB weld and some super epoxy's, but after all was said and done, I ended up using my welder to weld them. It was a time consuming pain in the A$$, but very well worth the effort.
Send me an email, and I'll get a little more detailed about it.

Like I said, hopefully when I get the truck back tomorrow I can get a picture or two up.
