Remote Start?

While looking through the 2002 Ford Truck accessories book I was looking at the remore start for my 2002 SCREW. They list it available in "gold" "silver" or "bronze" package. Does anyone know the differnece in these packages and are they worth the money???? I had a remote start in my UTE and was ADDICTED to it and miss it dearly!!!!!!!

I believe this is a FORD access. If it is aftermarket and they put it in, had anyone got it, how well does it work. I heard FORD had a problem with one here at a local dealer, but it was an after market remote start!!!! PLEASE HELP!!!!!!!!

Thumbs up Go For The Gold

Hi again joeeyo

Great minds think alike I guess.
Go for it , the ford gold one is starting my truck now, i added the optional alarm too` it is really integrated to the ford system, it even came with "ford like" key fobs. You can have another item hooked up to the left over button, say like elecrtic heated seats.
After you start the truck, hold the other button or just press it, (I forgot what the installer told me) and the other accessory will start up.

I had a very pricy aftermarket remote start on my last truck but this ford one works looks and feels better.

joeeyo,

I'm not sure what the difference is with the Ford Packages, I bought a unit from 12voltdirect.com for about $100.00 with the ignition by-pass box and installed it myself. It works great and the range is listed at 1/4 mile, i'm not sure its that far but it works from as far as i can get from the truck. The instructions are very clear and they include wire color codes for your truck, if your not adverse to cutting into and soldering some wires you can do it yourself in about 8 hours. My thought is, i'd rather cut the wires myself and know its done right.

S'Crewloose, I bought the same one but haven't installed it yet. I did not get a wiring sheet for the starter. I only got one for the PATS transponder. Could you share that sheet here for others that may be interested?

I got one installed by Ford at the time of purchase, and like it, but the dumb#sses there didn't follow my instructions, so I have to follow up. Specifically I said I want it like the picture there in the sales floor, i.e., with one remote for all functions, but I ended up with a separate remote and so if I start the truck with the remote start I can't use the other remote to open the locks (some sort of override I guess). Anyway, I'm assuming this is the basic level remote start, and more $ is necessary for the "advanced" single remote functionality. As I recall, they had 3 options you could buy from Ford, with the other options including things that the truck already included, so it made no sense to ask for the higher level version, and the guy whose job it is to deal with aftermarket stuff (coatings, etc.) apparently didn't know a d*mned thing about it.

SlaughterJ,

Are you in Richmond or Durham? Or can't make up your mind?

I have been looking at the Ford units too and trying to find out the differences. From what I can gather the "Gold" unit (the one pictured in the brochure), controls Remote Start, Keyless Entry, and Vehicle Security.

The "Silver" model controls Remote Start and Keyless Entry.

And, of course, the "Bronze" only controls Remote Start.

All three versions require an additional interface kit and are only for automatic transmissions.

These are the units for 2002 and range in price from around $160 up to $280. The interface kit is around $30.

I requested a quote from fordpartsnetwork.com and within an hour or so the above info is what I received.

I would like to know what all comes in the kit though.

Hope this helps.
