Question Where is CD Changer wiring harness in 01 Screw?

I have done a lot of searching on these forums & have not found a definitive answer.

I have a GEN 1 2001 Screw with the captians chairs in front.

I am fitting a Ford Radio (Cassette / CD changer control). The radio works just like I would expect (plugs right in).

I am trying to find where the CD changer harness plugs in.

The CD changer does have the harness & is pluged into the changer unit. (this is the 6 CD changer unit)

I have read various posts that the changer mounts in the right rear cargo container behind the seat. I did not see where this would mount there due to the jack being there.

I have read other posts that their CD changer mounts in the center console.

I have remove the console & see what appears to be a flap cut in the carpet where the cable would go, but I can not find a harness. I can feel a snall harness that goes over the transmision hump there, but it does not appear to be loose on either end to pull up & connect the changer to.

So does anybody know where I should be looking or where the connector is (the harness attached to the changer is about 6 feet long and has a brown sticker with the codes of XL34 19B113 P260G) that this plugs into.

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Also if someone could let me know some pin outs as I just discovered the connector on the CD side is damaged & there are 3 wires I am not sure which goes to shich pin.

This would be on the side that would have the clip that holds the harness in place.

The first wire (left to right looking down with the connector end facing away from me) is blue / pink stripe.

There is then a black / green stripe, solid purple & solid grey.

Hey JHimes,

This may help but I'm only guessing that all trucks have the same harness but then mine was built with the CD changer installed in the center console. Here's a pic I took while installing my Kenwood unit and removing the factory center console mounted CD changer.

I hope you can find the harness, otherwise you may have to purchase an aftermarket unit and changer. Good luck!

Thanks Daveman

Daveman, where that wire is coming out is the slit in the carpet I was talking about.

You would not know where that harness went to, would you? (the end not in the picture)

I don't have a changer in my 01' screw but when i replaced the factory headunit, there was an extra harness not being used which I assumed was for the changer. I would pull your deck and see if you have one harness plugged into the deck and one that isn't.

CD Changer location

I think the CD changer mounting location depends upon how your truck is equipped. When I was looking to buy, I remember seeing a truck with the bench seat and CD changer on a dealer's lot. In that case the CD changer was mounted in the passenegr side rear well.

Since it sounds like you have the center console, it should be in the middle. I would think Ford does not have different wiring harnesses based on console/no console trucks. There is probably an extension piece that is used to a junction point (either behind the dash or the rear cargo area) depending upon how the truck is fitted.

I would go to a Ford dealer parts department. Tell them what you are interested in doing (say you are thinking of adding a Ford factory changer unit so that you keep their attention) and ask them what is involved.

Good Luck!

Talking Solved my problem!

As some suggested, I did try to purchase a new cable from my local dealer. Well I tried 3 and none of them had it in stock. 1 delaer did print out a schematic to show where the cables ran & connect for both console and rear passanger seat mounts.

That diagram really sucked!

One of the dealers suggested a local store to see if they would have the harness (Downtown Radio (DTR) in Denver, CO).

Their parts store did not, but their sales / installation store did. The cable I purchased plugs into the radio & the existing harness then plugs into the new harness. There is also a long lead you can route to the CD changer.

This appears to be the same cable that radiosandmore.com has.

I had to remove the black facsia that covers the lower heater vents in the center. This was so I could route the cable under the carpet. I used a coat hanger wire to pull the cable under the carpet.

I mounted my changer in the center colsole under the cup holders.

If you have the center console, there is more storage room under the cup holder tray and it is easy to remove.

By mounting it there I can still use my insert that holds the CD's / cassettes. If I mounted it on the side, it would prevent me from using that tray.

It is mounted at a 45 degree angle & works fine! There are pins on the sides of the changer that is used to adjust spring tention based on vertical, horizontal or 45 degree angle.

I am going to attach some pictures to show what I did.

I am also posting a picture of the radio removal tool as it is inserted in the removed radio. You can get these for $4 at WallMart. Just insert until they "snap" in place & move the wires toward the edges of the radio. This pulls in the clips on the radio so you can pull it out.

Anyway, thanks for all the replys.

(Image harness1.jpg shows the new harness pluged into the radio & the existing harness conencted to the harness. You can see the cd portion of the harenss draped over the radio by the antenna connection.)

Image of the radio mount hole

On some other posts about mounting the in dash 6 disc changer or the cassette/CD unit it has been mentioned that some cutting needs to be done.

This image shows where the top bracket is for a better idea of what is there.

Image of console with cup holder tray removed

Here you can see where I routed the CD changer harness.

There is some room for you to stash some more stuff when you run out of room!

image of radio removal tool

Here you can see where that $4 bent piece of wire goes.

Just insert on each side & push outwards & pull out the radio. Only takes a few seconds.

(kinda scary just how quick you can remove it )
