Remote start help!

Hi all...

I am trying to finish a remote start install on my 2001 Screw and I need the groups help. I cant seem to find the factory disarm wire. I searched earlier posts and found it was dk. green/ violet stripe in the drivers kick panel, but for the life of me, I can find the frickin thing. Anybody else found it that can help me??

Im sure this wire is what is making the new remote not disarm after a while ( GEM power down??) and the factory alarm to go off if I do get the door unlocked by disarming right after arming. Also, the doors now all unlock instead of the drivers first then the rest on a second unlock press.

Thanks for your help and suggestions.

Judd

I can't help with the disarm wire but, I can tell you that if your using the remote start electronics to unlock your doors, they all unlock together. If you attached the lock/unlock wires from the unit to the lock/unlock wires coming from the box under the dash you have bypassed OEM electronics.

Thanks for the help. I guess if I want to keep the doorlock function same as factory I will need to go into the door. I may give that a shot. It would be nice for the Girlfriend to not unlock all the doors when she drives.

I hope someone knows the disarm color, Im going outside to work on that shortly.

Thanks all

SoCa,

I'm not sure how you would make just the drivers door unlock, although it must be possible to do because thats what the OEM unit does. One solution and maybe the easiest is to have her carry both remotes and only use the OEM remote to access the truck. As far as the disarm wire goes, I'll check this thread after work, if no one has given you an answer I will look it up in my manual and post the wire color and location.

Screwloose,
Thanks for the offer of looking up the color, I appreciate it.
I found one of my problems was caused by the POS dealer installed alarm. It was not disarming with the remote start like it needed to. I was lucky and found a guy at the company the dealer uses ( KARR), and he told me which wire on their brain disarms it. So I wired like he said and sure enough, it now disarms as it should. The coolest thing is now I get longer range from the remote start remotes, the dealer alarm still works, AND I get the door keypad to still disarm the dealer alarm. That is what I wanted all along, and the only reason I didnt rip out the dealer alarm and buy an all in one alarm/ remote starter combo.
I still need to figure out the damn GEM module though. After I arm the alarm, after about 20-30 secs, I cant unlock the doors with the new remote, although the factory will. I was told I need to pulse the domelight wire as I disarm, so thats what Im working on now.
If I can figure that out, I can live with the doors all unlocking at the same time, but I will try to figure that one out too, if I dont run out of daylight again- I want to actually drive the truck again- its been grenaded on my driveway for 3 days. Very humbling for me, since I used to do alarms for a living ( 10 years ago).

Anyway, thanks for the offer. If its not inconvenient, maybe you could post it anyway, in case I do need it or maybe it can help some other fool who tries this too.

Thanks,
Judd

SoCa,

Here is the wiring chart I recieved and used to install my Remote Start. I will attach it here because it does have the different wires to trigger just the drivers door lock.

Ed,
Thanks for digging that diagram up.

I think I may have done the ign/ acc wires different. If I remember correctly, I used 2 acc and 1 Ign ( or vice versa). Im going back in to check it out tomorrow. I drove it sround the block and all seemed well, so who knows?
I will also use those door lock colors and see what I can figure out.
I was having trouble with the GEM module shutting down and not letting me unlock ( but the alarm disarmed). Crimestopper tech support said to program the unlock pulse for double pulses. Does that sound right to you? It works but if I disarm when the GEM is still powered, I get an extra unlock. I guess its not a big deal- same as if one of the kids pressed the button too many times.

Thanks again for all your help. After all this I think Im in deep. The girlfriends sister now wants one on her Expy. I should have kept my mouth shut... LOL

Judd,
I don't think the double pulse will cause you any trouble, I suppose in the long run you may wear out the solenoid, their life expectancy is probably only 10,000,000 cylcles. As for the Acc. wires, there are two, I only used one, I looked for the one that ran the Heat/AC which was the gray/yellow. You think your on the hook? I put one in my wife’s voyager just to make sure I knew what I was doing before I did my S'Crew, then I did my truck, my buddies Superduty after that, and then his wife’s Volvo. I have 2 units right now, one going into his father-in-laws superduty and the other into another buddies wife’s ford van. One other buddy has commented on how well I get through the job and is hinting that I could probably do his Dakota in half the time cause I've done so many....lol

I remember using the gray/yellow wire and the AC does turn on. The radio stays off, which I like.
Pretty funny how everyone wants one at your place! My Dad called last night and wants me to put a DVD/monitor in my cousins Expy. Never done that one, but I guess I'll learn on someone elses car... LOL
