Needed new transmission
Needed new transmission
I just got my Screw back on Monday. The dealer had it over a week. They needed to put in a new transmission. My truck has a bit over 9K miles. The problem started backing out of the garage. It made a terrible grinding noise in reverse. When I put it into drive, the truck just died. The Check engine light came on. The whole drive train seized - you could not even roll the truck in neutral. The flat bed had to drag the truck on.
I looked in the archives and did not see a problem like this. The wierd thing is that when I picked up the truck, the invoice had N/C and "Recall" indicated. Does Ford have some type of internal recall on the Screw transmissions? They only do something if an owner shows up with a problem?
The only good side to this is that I wasn't stuck on the road - it happened at the house. Ford paid for all repairs, the tow and a rental car while my truck was being repaired.

Sorry to hear that... At least Ford reinversed you for your cost, time of cource is another thing. I have not heard of anyone on this board having this problem. The main problem that everyone, including myself have complained about is the "thunk" sound when the tran shifts from 2nd back down to 1st even under a light aceleration. I hope that I don't have any trans problems especially when I am out offroading in the desert!!! Only have 2500 miles now, but when I for offroading I will bring a buddy in a second vheicle, that way we will be a whole lot more comfortable.
I had mine replaced at 2100 miles. Weird vibration problem between 25 and 45 mph. I had a service sticker on my tranny that had a 1-800 # if the unit needed service. Got a new tranny off the assembly line and they sent mine back to Ford. Like you, the dealer/Ford took care of the repair and rental while my truck was in for repair. No problems since.
I'm happy with the dealer/Ford. While dissappointed with the problem, Ford made it right.
