Thumbs down Screw stuck in Park - again!!!

post on transmission forum

Well my beautiful Screw has left me stranded again. Stuck solidly in "Park", and no amount of key and brake manipulation, cursing and incantations would budge the damn shifter, not even the stupid little procedure in the owner's manual. This is ruining my confidence in the truck, and ruined a good hunt. I had to wait 2 hours in the middle of nowhere for a tow, then after getting to the dealer who was locked up tight with nowhere to leave the truck until Monday, I had to disconnect the linkage, start the engine, jam it into drive, and limp home.

I want to know how to remove the brake - shifter interlock solenoid and defeat the system. Any and all ideas welcome! It will be done. Warranty be damned!

Oh yeah, brakes are toast after 22k miles - needs new rotors and pads!

I think this is my last Ford. And, it's such a cool truck - too bad it ain't very reliable, and has too many factory defects. First the radiator, then the front hub, then the windshield wipers, now the damn shifter. Grrrr.......

RamblinWreck,

Don't know if this will help or not, but I have had the problem once and a while, where the steering wheel is cranked to far one way or the other and it won't start and I have to rotate the steering wheel to get it to turn over, don't know if it could be related to yours or not, but just a thought.

Good luck on getting it fixed and keep us posted, just in case it starts happening to others.
